The Westin Ft Lauderdale is very family friendly (great pool, easy access to beach) and there’s lots to do in that area (will need to rent a car). Monkey Jungle, butterfly world, Japanese gardens, watching the cruise ships. It’s also very close to the FLL airport.

We just got back from Miami! Definitely recommend Zoo Miami (be sure to get there at opening and rent a “family bike” - two adults pedal and your LO can ride in the basket). We also LOVED the new Frost Science Museum, as well as Fairchild Gardens and Matheson Hammock Park for a more natural, low-key beach experience. The Children’s Museum in Miami is good for a rainy day but does get pretty crowded on the weekends. We stay with family so don’t have hotel recs, unfortunately! Happy to answer any questions you might have - we go to Miami at least 2x a year.

@Amorini: My brother lives in Boca Raton and works in Ft. Lauderdale. We went down and visited them a few times. I don't have anything to offer on places to stay, but 2 things we enjoyed with small kids on our short visits:

Gumbo Limbo sea turtle rehab in Boca Raton. Both kids were fascinated. They rehab sea turtles. It's free except for a suggested donation. An hour or so is perfect to spend here.

Rocco's Tacos in Ft. Lauderdale. It's in this shopping center court and the kids could run around while we ate/drank and kept an eye on them. And the food was delicious.

I can ask for more info from my brother for you if you like. Have fun, it's a nice area!

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Ft Lauderdale. Very nice and kid friendly.

I’ve stayed at the JW Marriott in Miami years ago and that too was very nice. We prefer Ritz and Marriott.

FLL airport was nice and easy to navigate to the hotel. Hope this helps and you find something wonderful!

We have some family business to take care of specifically in mid-March and specifically in Miami and have decided to extend a few days to make a mini-getaway out of it. (We also could stay in FLL and travel down to Miami on the specific day we need to be there.)

I would love tips on how to make this as fun and relaxed as possible and not feel like we are surrounded by drunk spring breakers the entire time. My thought is to stay at a nicer resort ($300-400/night seems like the rate for those dates). Some older HB posts suggested Loews, etc. which are like 2x the price and thus out of our range. I am looking at Costco travel packages because we have had success with those in the past.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. We would be interested in non-beach day trips such as Zoo Miami or kid-friendly art museums and the like. LO is 2+ so simple stuff like pool, sand and beach is also just fine.
