I would buy a second maxi. We have one mini (no o-bar) and one maxi. We bought the mini years ago before they had all the accessories for little ones. My 2nd LO started using the Mini around 2yo when her brother got a maxi. She got the hang of it quickly and is really good at it now. She's only about 50th percentile for height and it works fine for her, so I think she would have been fine with a maxi.

@Pancakes: How long do you want the scooter to last? I got DS the mini for his 2nd birthday last November. He's a pretty tall kid but I don't see him growing out of it any time soon. I wanted one he could figure out how to use because he's a little uncoordinated with pedals. Once he outgrows it around 5 or 6, I'll figure it will have served it's purpose and if he still likes scooting, we can get a maxi.

@ValentineMommy: It is the same height, but you can buy the o-bar attachment for the Mini, which is a lower height for smaller kids.

@catlady: Yikes! DD2 is only 23 lbs right now, at 22 months old.

I debated this as well and found this article:
http://www.microkickboard.com/blog/child-tween-mini-maxi

It says "If your child weighs at least 35 pounds and is fairly coordinated for his/her age, your child may be able to “bump up” to the Maxi Micro prior to turning age five."

I was on the fence as well (for my almost-3-year old) but we'll be going with the mini one since she's short and only 28 pounds.

Isn't the height of the mini the same as the maxi on the lowest setting?

We skipped the mini and got the maxi when DS was 2. He never had any problem with it (although he is a tall kid).

Unless your child is really small, or you're going to pass the mini down to another child, I personally would just go with the maxi.

My 5-year-old has a Micro Maxi scooter that she loves and I'm thinking about getting a scooter for my other daughter's upcoming 2nd birthday. She's not quite tall enough yet for the Micro Maxi, so I'm considering getting the Mini with the o-bar attachment, but I'm afraid she will outgrown the Mini too quickly, and they're so expensive I don't want to regret my purchase either way. Any thoughts or experience with this? If you have the Mini has your child been able to use it for long enough to justify the price?
