Just to follow up -- at 9:45 today he started saying he was sleepy. The babysitter put him to bed at 10, and stayed with him rubbing his back/stroking his hair (I know, bad habit to start) until he passed out at 10:25. He just woke up briefly, then decided to go back to bed (it's 12:15 now). So so glad he's catching up on sleep! Not sure if we'll take a catnap later today, go to bed early tonight, or if this was just a time-shifted nap... guess I'll play the rest of the day by ear. (I only have the babysitter until 12:30, on the assumption that I can normally work while he's asleep, so until 3:15 or so. Love being a WAHM but hate the havoc it wreaks when his sleep is in adjustment!)

We do this after travel when he just needs to catch up on sleep. Usually he will end up taking his full nap in the morning and then a catnap in the afternoon. It's worth a try!

It's worth a shot. You could also start a "rest/quiet time" mid-morning. Time to play on the bed with books. Sometimes he may fall asleep, but it might be just enough rest time to keep him going until nap.

I have definitely moved nap time forward. Usually it is a short transition- they accept the earlier nap for a few weeks and then it inches further back in the day. It is certainly worth a shot. Worst case scenario he can't fall asleep, you or the nanny gets him up after say 20 minutes and then try again in an hour. Good luck!

Q for everyone: has anyone tried to introduce an occasional mid morning nap for a toddler who's already dropped to one? Almost like a grown up would take if they needed more sleep? Not every day, just giving him the opp if he was up too late?

Backstory: We started transitioning from crib to bed 3 weeks ago and my son is not doing well with newfound freedom. Sometimes he willfully plays quietly in his room until 11 pm... Sometimes we miss the window and he lays there awake, trying to sleep, for hours. Every morning, regardless of ehen he went to sleep, he's up at 6:45. (He used to sleep until 8:30 some days!)

At the same time his nap schedule started to go wonky - I feared he was dropping his 12-30-3:30 nap until I saw him yawning at 11:30 one day and realized, again, we were just missing the window. I told the babysitter to put him down earlier, but today isn't an option - he has a gym class until 12:20. So I'm pondering whether we should try to give him the opp to nap earlier, like 10:30.

Just wondering if I'm crazy or if anyone's tried this. TIA!
