Unless your kid has an identity crisis of some sort, I think you're OK. Like my brother, his first name was a family name, so my mom called him by his middle name. He hated being called by his first name as a kid, but as an adult he had started to go by it. I didn't even think about the fact that she likely wouldn't want the duplicate name. There is a family name that I like and we will probably go with for the middle name, but I'm having what is probably an irrational concern about her deciding at some point to go by her middle name instead of her first name. I love the first name we are picking, and would want her to stick with that.</p> <p>Is this a ridiculous thing to be concerned about? If any of you went by a middle name rather than a first name, how did that come about?</p> <p>I like both names, but the family middle name is a close family relative and I wouldn't want the duplication because we see each other quite often. </p>
