We picked a name we liked! We tried really hard to pick a middle name that wasn't Marie or Ann...a lot of our female friends that were born in the 70s and 80s have these middle names! They do sound good with most first names! :-)

DD's middle name is a random name that DH suggested when we were thinking up names but I wasn't sold on as a first name. DS's middle name is sort of tradition in my husband's family; all the males have "George" as one of their names yet I again wasn't sold on it as a first name so it became his middle name.

I just wanted a name that sounded "good" with her first name. I'm southern and used to the two-name deal (ie my mom is Dorothy jean and my sister is Mary Catharine) and I wanted to like it enough that if she decided to go by that I wouldn't mind

LO's middle name is my grandmother's name, she passed away while I was pregnant and that made us think about honoring her in that way. Otherwise we were leaning toward using Elizabeth, which is my mom, my MIL, and my middle name.

We are using his maternal grandmother's name as a middle. I don't love the name (Lutitia) but I felt like it was important to use because her first name will be after my maternal grandmother and I'm hoping some of the personalities and characteristics of both ladies will somehow rub off on our LO!

For our first daughter we used both our grandmother's names. For our second daughter, we chose a middle name that was inspired by, but not exactly a number of family members' names. That way it honored his mom, my great great aunt, my other grandma without being exactly their names. Everyone loved it.

We name all of our names after deceased relatives because it's Jewish tradition. That being said, if one of us hated the name we wouldn't use it. I think DH was more concerned about LO's first name though. He picked the first name and then let me have the middle name without much fuss.

@Crumbs: He doesn't really have a reason, he just really doesn't like it. He understands my reasons for wanting it though, and I think he wishes he did like it.... I'm so torn between really fighting for it and letting it go. Who knew choosing a middle name would be harder than the first name???

Audrey's such a pretty name! If it was me, I'd fight for it. Maybe your DH will start to like it once he sees how much it means to you. Just curious, why does he dislike the name so much? I think that it's only fair that he has a real, legitimate reason to trump your reason. Your reason is pretty strong, it'd be a shame to not be able to use it for something silly, like it reminds him of an old grade school classmate he didn't like.

Oh I LOVE that name Audrey and it's such a nice way to commemorate your Gma! I'd have loved to use my gma's name but it's so common, Amy, and I already have a BFF and another aunt with the same name.
DH wanted to use either of his parent's names for our kids' middle names. He said it would their main legacy (in a name) so I was fine with it. Obv, it made my in-laws SUPER happy!

we went with a family name as well. it's my husband's memaw's name. she played a huge role in his upbringing and helped make him into the man he is today. she passed away when we were in high school, so we really wanted to honor her. it happens that i love her name--rose--but i would've used it regardless.

I adore the name Audrey! Toddler Girl has my grandmother's first name as her middle name and Wonder Baby shares a middle name with my mother and I. If we had had a boy, he would have had my husband's brother's first name as his middle name.

LO's middle name is the same as dh's dad's middle name. Dh's dad passed away a few months before our LO was born so there is a lot of meaning behind our choice. While it isn't a name I would ever selected on my own, the meaning behind it is enough for me to not even go near vetoing it.

We've already decided that all MN's for our LO's will be family. The way we've decided to handle which side of the families are "used" is that theoretically DH gets the first boy (his, his dad's and his g-pa's MN) and I get the first girl (my mom's MN). However, if we have two of the same gender then we'll just let whoever didn't get to go the first time have that. So, for second boy would be my choice or second girl would be DH's choice.

We have a tradition in my family of giving the first born girl the mother's middle name (as a middle name as well). IE my gramma's middle name is Marie, my mom and my sister's middle name is also Marie.

My middle name is a family name, and our first girl will share it with me :)

For boys, we're using a family name as well. Strangely we don't have that tradition with sons...

We used family names. We're having a boy and his middle name will be John after my husband, his father, and his grandfather. If it was a girl, it would have been Frances after my mother, who passed away 6 years ago. DH originally cringed when he heard that name because he had temporarily forgotten that was my mother's name, but once he remembered why, he was totally fine with it.

DS's middle name is my MIL's maiden name. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but we really wanted to use a name from his mom's side (DS's first name is a family name from his dad's side), and it was the one I liked the most. It's grown on me, especially since it's a middle name so it's not said a lot--we call him by his first name, not by his middle or first name middle name.
