I would suggest trying to bump up his feeding during the day. Offer more snacks, larger meals, etc. If he takes in more food overall during the day he may not get hungry at night.

I went to just sippys at a year, so if he really was hungry in the MOTN, I gave him milk in a sippy. It doesn't happen often, but still occasionally. I usually try to settle him without milk or water, but if he keeps asking for it, I figure he needs it.

@charlotte: @Applesandbananas: My LO will only use a straw cup for milk. He hates sippy cups because he apparently thinks it's some cruel trick that it's not his bottle. I dug through all of our sippy cup stash last night and did find one with a soft spout that might resemble his bottle - going to try that one tonight!

@ALV91711: I am going to try the small snack with milk at night and the water in the crib trick. Thank you!

After he weened himself and still woke up in the night I rocked him. I leave a sippy cup of water in his crib so if he wakes up thirsty it is there. Most nights he doesn't touch it but there are some nights he drinks the whole thing.

I've started giving him a little snack before bed with his milk and now he's not waking up. His snack will be some fruit or the rest of his dinner if he didn't eat much.

@Tanjowen: we use nuk sippies with silicone spouts--it's the same texture as what my LO was used to with bottles and is cold on him gums. He took very well to the nuks!

@Tanjowen: do you just do a regular sippy or have you tried a straw cup? My LO switched very easily from his bottles to straw cups with silicone straws. Wondering if maybe the sucking is comforting?

@hotchildinthecity: Nice! I know I need to bite the bullet and do.a sippy cup, but LO hates them with a passion and we've fought the weaning battle with lots of tears!. I'm going to need to order a case of wine and just go for it.

Actually, no. He got used to it pretty quickly. But I think he stopped being hungry during the night and just liked the comfort of the sippy.

Now he's been sleeping through the night (for like a week) and we've been leaving the water sippy cup in the crib with him with the hopes that he will find it himself if he wakes up.

@hotchildinthecity: Did he get made when it was water instead of milk?

I'm probably in a slightly different situation but yes, we switched to a sippy of milk and then eventually a sippy of water. But I feel like my son eventually wanted it for comfort rather than being hungry.

I should add after reading my post that I don't really mind giving him milk in the middle of the night - I know a lot of kids still wake up 1 time a night at this age. I am more concerned about the bottle issue and how to not fall back on them during these night awakenings.

We have weaned our LO off bottles for the most part - we still have to tackle the night bottle, ugh. The past two weeks he has been STTN (amazing!).

The past 2 days he didn't really eat well, and he's woken up in the middle of the night - after about 9 hours of sleep - and starts crying that soon escalates into screaming until we give him a bottle. You can hear his stomach growling, so I feel like he's waking up out of hunger.

When you weaned your LO off bottles, how did you handle these night wakeups? Did you offer a sippy cup of milk instead? Stay up with them and offer no milk? Any help appreciated.
