Thanks for the ideas ladies! I am going to try to run to the mall quick tomorrow on lunch and see what I can find as far as options for dresses and jewelry.

I think the maxi is fine, you can dress it up with a chunky rhinestone necklace and a bracelet.

I think your maxi would be fine with some great jewelry.

@MamaCate: I'm cheap :) So, I usually start at Kohl's, Target, or Old Navy for a dress.

I've worn this one to the last 2 weddings I've gone too with a statement necklace to dress it up and have gotten tons of compliments: http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1001227&vid=1&pid=953059042

@LuLu Mom: I have a cute cocktail dress that I think would be perfect but right now it is too small in the hips! It is what I wire to my rehearsal dinner 6 years ago. Where would you look for a new cocktail dress if I want an excuse to shop?

Id go for a cocktail dress, but you could dress up the maxi if you didnt want to buy a new dress.

@MamaCate: You could dress that up! A cute statement necklace with maybe some metallic sandals or an updo with really pretty earrings. I definitely don't think you need another dress if you don't want to buy one!

I think you could make that maxi work, otherwise a classic black dress is always a no fail choice! You can dress it up with jewelry and who doesn't need a black dress? (coming from the girl who has at least 5 in her closet ;) )

I see jersey knit maxis at weddings fairly often (even nice ones). If you dress it up with jewelry, I wouldn't think twice of a guest wearing it.

I tend to opt for cocktail dresses, though, mostly because i have a ton of them in my closet and it's an excuse to wear them :)

You might be able to dress up the maxi with accessories depending on how casual it is. I'd have to see it to judge whether it's possible or not.

So we got invited to a wedding in northern ohio in a few weeks for one of DH's old college friends. I grew up in ohio but we now live in the southwest so I have no idea what the norms are anymore. I don't know anyone else going to the wedding so I can't coordinate with anyone.

My question is how fancy do I need to dress? Right now I either have a very daytime sundress or a very casual jersey knit maxi. I think those are both too casual, but I am not sure how much more dressy I need to go if I *have* to buy a new dress.

Help me out ladies?
