I go to a midwife and as a general rule the whole appointment consists of me doing a pee test to check glucose and protein levels, weighing, blood pressure check, checking baby's heartbeat, measuring my fundal height and then she asks if I have any questions. We also chat quite a bit but thats why I love it there. They gave me one ultrasound at 22 weeks to check on everything and determine gender and I had my blood drawn at my second appointment and I believe I have a finger poke coming up at my next appt (28 weeks). I went once a month up
until now at 28 weeks, I will go every other week until 36 weeks when I will start going every week.

My experience was almost identical to @mrsjazz. More time spent talking was awesome!

I switched from an OB to midwives' practice around 30 weeks. From 30-36 weeks I saw them twice (every 3 weeks) and now I see them every week. The appointments are similar to what I did with my OB, only my midwives spend more time talking to me and going over any issues. No ultrasounds (my OB gave an ultrasound at every appt. as an easy way to check on the baby).

I love that I get to weigh myself and do my own urine check at every appt. They check blood pressure, measure the fundal height, check the baby's heartbeat and position.

Since my practice is not affiliated with an OB office, you have to be sent to another center if you want the 12-week NTS and they require the 20-week anatomy scan--but that's it for ultrasounds.

I am using a midwife practice. No US at the practice - they've sent me to the local hospital for the NT scan and anatomy scan. Since 11 weeks the appts have been weight, blood pressure, listen to HB with doppler, ask any questions. At 22 weeks they also started measuring my belly. They did a ton of bloodwork and urine at the first appt (at 7 weeks) and urine again at 11 weeks, but not since then. Don't know if they will start it again toward the end to check for protein? I'm 27 weeks now.

I go to a practice that is half OBs and half midwives but I see the midwives. The appointments are the same as seeing an OB - blood pressure, urine/blood tests, listen to heartbeat. I got ultrasounds at 8 and 19 weeks, plus I have another coming up at 34 weeks (growth scan). I went every 5 weeks until I was 30 weeks, then every 3 weeks until 36 weeks, then it's every week until I deliver.

I have seen OBs at the practice a couple times and it seems like the midwives are much, much more laid back. They are less likely to order extra tests and are more reassuring that everything is normal, whereas the OBs will order extra tests "just to be sure".

I saw midwives the first time I was pregnant before I miscarried. I don't know why because nobody asked me if I wanted to see them.... they're part of the practice at my OB. It was exactly the same as going to the doctor for me. But it might be different if they're not a part of the OB practice.

I have a consultation with a midwife on Tuesday, so I know I'll find out more then, but I'm curious about the norm. What are midwifery appointments usually like? Procedures - urine/blood tests, ultrasounds, etc? How often are the appointments? Just want to hear some first hand accounts. Thanks!
