@mrs. wagon: turns out my OB was really uncomfortable with me getting my neck cracked. Instead he'd like me to see a neurologist to rule out a vascular issue. At first, they said it would be mid-November but I called my OB crying and he called and got me in tomorrow. FX I get some answer.

@ladybee: oh, that is a relief (but also an annoyance, I can totally relate). But take it from me, it's an awesome thing that it's not the spinal headache... I'm no doctor, but from my research I saw that it's a headache because your spinal fluid is leaking so your brain is literally not floating in enough fluid. Which is why the headache disappears when you're lying down-- gravity is helping to keep the fluid in. But when you sit up, the fluid starts leaking out again and causes the headache.

Fingers crossed that the fluids, caffeine and neck crack help!! Come to think of it, that dull back of the head headache does sound like the headache I get when I go through caffeine withdrawal... which basically means there's inflammation that caffeine shrinks.

Talked to the anesthesiologist and he does not feel that I match the criteria for a spinal headache. He suggested drinking as much as possible and getting at least 200mg of caffine daily. He also saw in my chart that I used to get my back cracked monthly for back pain and migraines. He suggested calling my doctor and getting my neck cracked as soon as possible. I'm waiting for my OB to call and give me the go ahead and my family doctor said he feels comfortable doing it.

I'm relief that it isn't spinal related annoyed that I'm sitting here with a headache and I don't know why.

@mrs. wagon: Thanks for all the information. The anesthesiologist called and evaluated me briefly by phone. He does not feel that I match the criteria for spinal headache.

@ladybee: hi! And thanks @heartonastring: for linking to my blog post. My headache appeared about 3 days after my delivery but it could be that you had a slower leak than I did. But does the headache appear after you sit up? It sounds like my headache was the opposite of yours: disappeared when I was lying flat, then reappeared when I sat up. This is a sure sign of a spinal headache. After my blood patch was done I had to lie flat for an hour for it to heal, then the test to see whether it had taken or not was for me to sit up. I sat up and my headache did not reappear, so they knew it had worked.

One thing that may help before you get seen is caffeine. Even though I was nursing they had me on caffeine and fioricet (which includes caffeine) round the clock. Unfortunately it didn't help with me.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Mrs. Wagon had the procedure to repair a dural puncture (which is what leads to a spinal headache). She blogged about it here: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/08/16/my-cursed-spine/. I'm sure you could PM her if you have any questions.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your babe! I hope you get some relief soon :)

I agree with PPs too that is sounds like spinal headache. If headache doesn't go away after the blood patch don't hesitate to have them look at it again. My friend's patch had to be done twice before the headaches subsided. I hear the pain can be pretty awful and so I hope you feel better real soon.

I agree with the PPs in that it sounds like a spinal headache. The fix is a blood patch... which means they'll draw blood and use the blood to "patch" the area where your epidural was placed. You'll have relief in no time, I hope!

I echo @Ree723: . Sounds like a spinal headache. I'm glad you are being seen, and I hope they get you fixed up! Congrats on your baby boy :)

This sounds like a spinal fluid leak from what I know. I believe when an epidural/spinal is given, there is a chance they will puncture the spinal membranes which can cause a severe headache. Usually this is patched up by giving another shot in the spine to patch up the 'hole' and provides pretty quick relief. I would definitely get back in to see your OB as soon as possible.

Here's some info I pulled re: a spinal headache

http://www.thewomens.org.au/Headacheafteranepiduralorspinalanaesthetic

P.s. Congrats on the arrival of your baby boy!

On Monday, the 14th, I had c-section due to my fever spiking, baby's fever spiking, our heart rates being very high and a rise in my BP. This was after 12 hours of labor and an epidural that was not working due to DS's position.

Today is one week and I have had a pretty consistent dull headache at the back of my head/neck. When I lay down or wake up it turns in to a full fledge migrane where I throw up and my vision blurs. I put in a call to my OB today and he is setting up an appointment with the anesteshiologist, hopefully for tomorrow.

Has anyone had this? Any tips or advice? If I sleep on my back I wake up MISERABLE. If I can manage to get myself on my side and sleep I wake up feeling better than on my back.

Right now I am on Vicodin and Motrin for pain, neither getting rid of the headache. DS is a pretty awesome sleeper too so I'm getting way more sleep than I ever thought I would.
