Hope you feel better soon!

For me it is first that light becomes painful, then that sound is amplified, then my vision clouds and sometimes goes black and white. Then the headache begins and it is usually only on the right side, like something stabbing my through the eyeball toward the back/top of my head.
Usually only goes away with meds + full night's sleep.

Mine start with my head feeling tense, with increasing pain, usually behind the eyes. It gets almost unbearably painful fast, and I have seriously increased sensitivity to smell, sound, and sight. I get very nauseous, and usually through up. I have to lie perfectly still in a cold, dark room with a cold wet washcloth over my eyes, and I have to sleep it off. I'm dreading the day I get one while I'm home alone with Evan. Excedrin or Advil Migraine work great, but I have to sleep after.

@swedishfish: I'm sorry to hear you're suffering; it could still be a migraine and is worth bringing up with your dr at your next appointment! Excedrin Tension Headache (with acetaminophen and caffeine) helps me a ton if I take it as soon as the pain starts, or if you're fine with aspirin/NSAIDS Excedrin Migraine might work too.

Thanks, everyone! I also have nausea but not the light/sound sensitivity. I don't really have a choice but to power on because DH works nights and weekends so it's just me and LO.

Like a giant weight on my brain that causes horrible pain combined with nausea, aura (swirls in my vision), and lots of sensitivity to light and sound.

Mine start sort of dull and general and then become severe and focused on one side of my head. They are definitely throbbing, like I can feel each beat of my heart in my head. It sort of feels like my head is swelling. I have extreme sensitivity to light and smells as well as sound or anything moving in my visual field. Basically any stimulation. I really just want to sit in a dark room with a cold pack on my head.

ETA - Nausea is also a big thing, and vomiting if I don't treat it quickly enough.

Luckily Triptans (Imitrex) work really well for me though. Not being able to take anything during my pregnancy was horrible.

Mine start with blurry vision in one eye or floaters all around. Then I start to feel a pounding behind my eyes like someone is in my head hammering them. I also very sensitive to light, sound, and smell. I have to be in a room by myself, usually with pillows over my head. I don't take anything other than ibuprofen for them though, because I've had bad reactions to medications in the past.

Mine usually start behind my eyes. It is a constant pounding. I also suffer with the sensitivity to light and sound. Occasionally I have issues with sensitivity to smells and nausea. The only thing that works to get rid of it is medication, a cool gel mask in a dark quiet room where I can sleep for a while.

I usually start with a dull pain above my right eye with some nausea and visual changes, then it intensifies if I don't take a triptan to feel like there is a fist in my brain that is trying to open and expand. I feel unsteady and shaky and it always happens the same way. Only difference is how long it lasts.

Mine start out as a throbbing pain above my left eye (like there is a little man with a hammer & chisel tap, tap, tapping away in there). Then I get super nauseated, light sensitive and sound sensitive. Oh and smells, I get so sensitive too. The slightest odor has me retching over the toilet. I don't get auras or visual disturbances like some of the ladies though. The pain the gets to be this tingle like creepy crawly sensation that goes up my scalp and down the back of my head. It usually only stays on the left side but sometimes it affects my whole head.

I do my rescue medication shots, pop a Zofran and head for the darkened bedroom with an eye mask over my eyes and just wait it out. I get occipital nerve blocks into the back of my skull every 3 months to help ease the intensity but it's my understanding the blocks don't always continue to bring relief. Then they move on to Botox.

For me, it starts off as a weird patch of distorted light/vision in one eye, like I have a tiny contact lens floating in the upper, outer corner of one eye. The next symptom is a pain in the inner corner of one eye, to the side of the bridge of my nose. If I don't pop a couple of my pills and lie down in a darkened room quick smart it turns into a cracking, searing headache and I feel really queasy. It can last a couple of days if it gets that far but it rarely does.

For me, it happens a couple of ways. Most recently, I've had ocular migraines that start with a visual disturbance over half of my vision that last 15 minutes to an hour, and then gives way to a bad headache and sinus pressure. Regular migraines just hurt extremely bad and I have to stay laying flat or the pain is much worse. In both instances, the headache lasts for 24 hours and slowly gets better after the 24 hour mark.

For me (and I don't get them very badly) my migraines are very light and sound sensitive. So, the pain will 'spike' if there's any light in the room (and I mean *any*), or if any sounds can be heard. The louder/more high pitched the sound, the more my head throbs. Lying in a completely dark room, with no sound makes them feel marginally better.

It can vary a bit, but for me it tends to be some combination of a throbbing one-sided headache that lasts for days + nausea/light sensitivity. Once in a while (not so much anymore now that I'm on Topamax) I'll have separate aura symptoms like seeing flashing lights, limb weakness, trouble talking. But mostly the headache that feels like it's all over your body.

Hope you feel better!
