Weather change is my biggest trigger along with stress. Lack of sleep also contributes. I managed to decrease my caffeine dependency because that used to be a huge trigger for me as well. I also get migraines that start at the back of my head. I get occipital nerve blocks every 3 months. I have Maxalt or Alsuma (an Imitrex-like drug), Zofran for the horrible nausea and Tramadol (that can cause rebound headaches so I try to avoid it if possible. Usually the Alsuma is enough to knock out the worst of them) for rescue meds. If I think it's an allergy triggered migraine, I'll also use my Rx nasal spray and Benadryl too. I recently started taking Propranolol daily (for other reasons) but I used to take it a long time ago as a preventative.

Sausage and bacon that you buy pre cooked and heat up in the microwave and also stress. It's easy to control the food part, but stress management is a life long battle. DH gets migraines when he gets too hot in his sleep.

My triggers are usually a combination of them all...lack of sleep, not eating a healthy diet/not eating enough, stress. Mine come on with numbness in my left arm, then my left eye gets the aura and I can't see out of it. It's awful :( I haven't had one in years though. Since I know what causes them I can help to avoid them :)

@Mrs. Jacks: Not usually . . . I usually know a migraine is coming by a really intense feeling of nausea that comes out of nowhere. The blindness generally shows up in the middle of a big time migraine . . . I will close my eyes for a period of time and when I open them again, I can't see. The first few times it really freaked me out!

ETA: I have never been able to *predict* the blindness.

@MsLipGloss: Do your visual changes come like an aura? God I hate it when my right eye goes all screwy and I'm like, "F. I've got to get to some Imitrex stat!" (before I can't see straight).

@Mrs. Jacks: All hail the Imitrex injections! Occasionally, I will have migraines during which I am (temporarily) blind in one or both eyes (usually just one) . . . I can inject myself without being able to see! It is AWESOME.

@Mrs. Jacks: I felt like it was groundhog day . . . I looked so bad that I was told repeatedly (by a very understanding partner whose wife was also pregnant, although nobody knew that at the time!) that there was no reason why I couldn't work from home. I eventually broke down and took Fioricet and Benadryl, but even then it took about a week to keep the migraine from coming back (rebounding).

@MsLipGloss: Oh, I am SO grateful that every one I've gotten since I had E has been when D was here, either late at night or on the weekend. I can't imagine how I would have managed if I had felt like I did yesterday and D wasn't here to wrangle E! It's bad enough today feeling all out of sorts...I've pulled out Sesame Street. I think I'd have to either call D and beg him to come home or ask my ILs to come over!

@lovehoneybee: I literally showed up at the Neuro's office begging for an appointment in the hopes that someone--anyone!--would see me. I lucked out and got a lovely Doc who went out of his way to help me out. After that 5 weeks and finally starting to feel better, I went into pre-term labor (at 22 weeks) . . . Haha! I can't believe I would ever want to be pregnant again! :P

@MsLipGloss: I'm feeling better today although there is some lingering pressure. I took a Tylenol PM last night and I'm feeling it today...woke up feeling both hungover and stoned. I almost never take it because of that (and this is the first time since before I got pregnant--I would sleep through E crying, which I apparently did twice last night!)

@lovehoneybee: There is not much worse than a double header . . . just when you think you have it licked, and it totally comes back around to bite you in the ass. It is entirely and completely debilitating! I'm sorry you went through that yesterday . . . hopefully that will be it for good, or for at least a good long while!

I forgot about things like perfume and other strong smells. That does it for me too.

We were at Medieval Times last month and had to leave halfway through because something or a combination of somethings (the noise, the flashing lights, the smells) triggered one :(

I had a migraine lasting 5 weeks while I was pregnant (starting the day after my amnio at 16 weeks, and lasting through my 21st week).

Excessive tiredness and bad storm fronts. DH's biggest trigger is a change in the barometric pressure. I'm sorry you're unwell today. You are not alone, though-this front is making it hard for lots of us!

Ugh, storm fronts moving in (pressure changes) always does it for me in a bad way. I can completely ignore the weather forecasts and still know when a front is coming in. Yesterday I got TWO migraines...the first that started hitting during our photo sitting and had me stumbling to bed by the time I got home, and the second late at night just as the worst of the weather was starting in. D was very amused to walk into the bedroom to find me in a coma-like sleep (I was out of migraine meds and had taken a Tylenol PM) with one of his shirts over my eyes and forehead.

My other trigger is lack of caffeine, but I assume it's because I'm addicted and more a symptom of withdrawal.

What are your triggers? How do you deal with migraines?
