I'm onto my third migraine this week, at 26 weeks preg. OB didn't seem concerned at all when I saw him on Friday (and then had a migraine 10 minutes after walking out of the office) - he chalked it up to hormones, which makes sense, but I feel like a limp noodle as I'm recovering from this morning's bout. Any advice for dealing with them during pregnancy?

Sounds more like a tension headache to me? But I think it all depends on the person! I get frequent headaches and migraines, and there is no question for me when it's a headache vs. a migraine. When I get migraines I'm nauseous (or throwing up), very dizzy, disoriented, and I can not function. Like at all. My brain feels like it's melting. I started getting them really bad a few months after having my LO and my husband said he though I was having a stroke at first.

@regberadaisy: I took it once or twice while nursing (when nothing else worked), with E's pedi's okay. It has aspirin in it, and so has a (very) low risk of Reye syndrome. And caffeine, if A is sensitive to that. Maybe call the pedi or nurse to ask advice if you're worried?

To me, migraines feel like your brain and eyes are going to explode. I also have nausea and visual distortion. I can't function when I have one..I have to hide in bed in the dark until it passes. But I've gotten really good at knowing when one's coming and can head it off by chugging coffee and taking excedrin migraine. I'm so thankful I only get like 1 a year now. I used to get them monthly as a teen and in my early 20's.

Whether it's a migraine or not, caffeine should help, so get on it @regberadaisy!

I get brutal headaches, and that sounds similar to mine!

Migraines are unmistakable... if you're not sure if it's a migraine, then I think it's usually a headache!

Could be. What you are describing is what I think of as a tension headache. When I have a migraine, I am pretty disoriented and very sensitive to light. Hope you feel better soon!

I've had 4 in the last 5 weeks so need to mention to my OB tomorrow. Mine ways start with a visual disturbance and dizziness and progress into intense jarring pain, sensitive to light and noise. I think they might be hormonal at the moment.

I get migraines often - sometimes 3-4 times a week. Mine are always accompanied by aura (vision distortion, light sensitivity), and caffeine helps me a lot. It doesn't get rid of the migraine right away, but it shortens the duration. As soon as I feel one coming on, I take 3 Advil and drink a big cup of coffee. This usually shortens it from all day to about two hours. Good luck...migraines suck!

@regberadaisy: I don't know how to tell the difference specifically but that sounds awful. The pain from leaning over sounds like your sinuses too- sometimes when I have a really bad one the combo of Tylenol and sudafed takes the edge off. I hope you feel better!

@lovehoneybee: I get migraines and regular headaches with changing weather too. It's sucks.

How long have you had it?
That sounds miserable! I'm so sorry :( I get about 1-2 migraines a month. They can be hormonal, stress related, or unknown precipitating factors. Excedrin migraine occasionally works for me, and so does my rx immitrex if taken soon enough. Typically mine will go away once I've slept a little, but I have the hangover effect the next day.

@regberadaisy: Sounds a lot like my migraines, but mine include sensitivity to pretty much everything (especially light and noise) and I'm usually nauseous (or throwing up). Excedrin migraine, a coke, lying in a cold, dark room with a cold compress over my eyes for a while usually help mine.

I hope you feel better soon!

ETA: My triggers are usually either hormonal or weather-related (like when a front is coming in and the pressure changes).

Sounds like a migraine and/or tension headache. Excedrin migraine is the only thing that works for my days long migraines. Try an ice pack on the back of your neck/head. Ugh so sorry migraines are the worst.

What does a migraine feel like?

I've had a horrible headache since Saturday, off and on. Sunday was the worst, even some Motrin didn't get rid of it. Even overnight sleep didn't get rid of it. At first I thought it was a bad head cold because I was all achey and running hot and cold. I popped two motrins Monday morning and it was gone shortly after. Today I have another and took one aleve and it didn't even take the edge off.

My brain feels like it's pulsating and wanting to bust out of my skull. Leaning over to put LO down in the crib is absolutely brutal. To give you a pain threshold reference, the last time I took Motrin was after delivery, a year ago! I'm not one to take medication willy nilly and don't get regular headaches.

Does it sound like migraines?
Maybe it's hormonal imbalance and my period is coming back?
Can stress headaches be this painful?
