@Sugar.Biscuit: Sorry to hear its back.
I have suffered with migraines for years and if I can't take medication then I usually rely on one of those gel eye masks that I keep in the fridge at all times.

@Katrocap: That's what I took before pregnancy & I miss it! I'm feeling better just really tired. The chiropractor did a laser treatment to my neck and temples and strangely I think it work. I wasn't convinced going into it.

@sugar.biscuit: I hope you are feeling better now. Migraines are horrible. I couldn't take my regular Rx (Maxalt) during pregnancy and nothing else really helps, so I just had to wait them out. Sometimes the nausea was so bad I would try to make myself vomit - which never even worked! ((hugs))

@mslipgloss: Five weeks! You poor thing, what a trooper you are.

@mrscb: I love your coke/shower suggestion. I'll try that next time I have a migraine!

I called the Pharmacy and they said that its a category C drug. That there is no conclusive data for the medication use during pregnancy & that the Dr. will prescribe it if he thinks the benefits out way the risk of side effects. I wont take Tylenol unless I feel like complete crap. I'm going to have to be on my death bed before I take this stuff. So thanks for the heads up ladies!

I'm feeling about 2 cents better now that I am not at work. I'm going to the chiropractor & will pick up the meds to have on had encase I have to take them. Now that I'm off work I feel like I can suffer in peace.

I wasn't allowed to take imitrex during pregnancy. It hasn't been studied in pregnant women and it works on blood vessels so they are not sure how it would affect the placenta. I had a hard time with migraines without my meds and spent a lot of time in the dark with ice packs on my head. I took excedrine tension headache (tylenol and caffeine). It wasn't a miracle drug but it was nice to have something i could take. I got through it one day at a time with my beautiful baby as motivation. I hope you're feeling better soon!

@Sugar.Biscuit: I have migraines and while I'm not pg yet, my GP, OB, and RE all said the only Rx migraine med that was safe during pregnancy is Fioricet. I take Relpax, and it's deemed "not safe" only because it hasn't been studied in pregnant women. Maybe Imitrex is the same?

@Sugar.Biscuit: I know Artbee (I don't think you can call her to a thread anymore?) has struggled with bad migraines, you might reach out to her. I got pretty frequent migraines when I was pregnant (and not-pregnant) and my doctor told me there would be a point where it was worth the risk to take the better meds.

I would actually do the same as @MrsCB: . It didn't always work, but it almost always got me to a point where it was a much more manageable pain (and then I would sleep, if I could).

@Sugar.Biscuit: I was the same way. I would have coffee every morning before finding out I was pregnant and even during the first few weeks. After about 6 or 7 weeks I just didn't want it anymore and quit cold turkey and didn't have any withdrawals at all. No headaches, nothing. Then all of a sudden at 16/17 weeks I started with migraines. It was almost as if my body was like "oh yeah...I remember now, you just up and quit that really good caffeine stuff and I'm going to make you pay!" It was bizarre!

I'm so sorry! I've been fighting with them too and couldn't stand it and called my doctor. She said 2 extra strength Tylenol and a can of coke or coffee would help. A lot of times migraines are connected to caffeine and people don't realize it.

I kept getting them on and off for 2+ weeks and couldn't take it. I started having a half a cup of coffee in the mornings and that's made a world of difference! I still have an occasional headache or the beginning stages of a migraine but the Tylenol/caffeine combo will nip it in the bud now.

I also bought a weighted eye pillow from amazon and that's helped when I've surpassed the point of being able to stop it with medicine. It's just an eye pillow with beads in it but it darkness, coolness and pressure/weight really help.

I hope you get relief, I know how miserable it is!

I had the worst headaches, migraine and regular, of my life early in my pregnancy. What finally worked for me was several sessions of acupuncture. I finished those sessions in feb and I have not had a migraine since! I was getting them at least weekly before that. If its a recurring problem I can't recommend acupuncture highly enough. (Though I'm aware it doesn't work for everybody, sadly).

@Sugar.Biscuit: LOL, it's what works for me. There's something about the warm shower relaxing your muscle and the cold soda with caffeine. I read it forever ago on a board about migraines. But then, I respond very well to Excedrin for migraine relief, which is caffeine, tylenol and aspirin. But of course you can't take asprin while pregnant. For rx meds I'm either allergic to them or they don't work for me.
