Thanks everyone. You made me feel better! She's gone now, but as soon as she left DH and I ran around the house like mad sanitizing everything before the babies could touch anything. I know we can't prevent them from getting sick forever, but at least we can try to keep them as healthy as possible!

Oh that sucks. I'd be pissed too. I admit-- when I'm sick at home, I'm probably kind of gross. But that's in my own home, with no one but DH around and I'm more careful around him. But in someone else's home I'm really careful and that is not even with a baby. If I was visiting someone with a baby and got sick, I would leave early if it was at all possible, and if I couldn't, I'd be sanitizing and washing my hands like it was my job. And I would never hold a baby when I knew I was sick, in fact, I thought I was getting sick only the second time I was going to see my nephew and didn't touch him the entire time. It broke my heart, but not as much as getting him sick would.

BTW, off topic, but my BIL and his girlfriend don't have soap in their bathroom. I'm so confused about this-- a guy I guess I get, but neither of them use soap after the bathroom?

Yikes, I would be squiriting her with hand sanitizer and following her around with Clorox wipes!!

Do you have hand sanitizer around? What I did in the beginning was have big bottles of sanitizer on most tables so people kinda got the hint to use it, Its easier and sometimes more effective than washing your hands

Ew, i hate that. I may not always wash my hands after I blow my nose in my house, but it's my own house. I am hyper sensitive to being disgusting in someone else's home. In fact, when DH is sick, I will routinely ask him to hold his breath while I spray his chair and the areas he's in with Lysol. And I'd set a giant bottle of hand sanitizer near her.

Err I'm sorry. My MIL is not germ conscious either (I was just thinking about how I don't want LO to take a bath at her house because who knows when was the last time she cleaned the tub with bleach).

I think all you can probably do at this point is wait it out and do a good cleaning after she leaves.

I think that's extremely rude and inconsiderate. Maybe you should follow her around the house with a can of Lysol and spray everything she touches. Think she might get the hint then? Hehe

My MIL is usually prim and proper but when she held LO for the first time, I caught her picking her nose! I was drinking something and almost gagged! LO was less than a week old! I held my breath and let it go. Gotta pick your battles. At least your MIL is leaving soon.

Awh, that sucks :( I hate it when people don't practice good hygiene. I would just wipe down surfaces constantly and also wash your LO's hands/face often.

My MIL is here visiting us from out of town. She is leaving tomorrow but has come down with a bad cold and cough. I'm just venting because she is coughing all over the place without covering her mouth and blowing her nose without washing her hands with soap. My DH has reminded her but she keeps forgetting. I don't understand how you can "forget" to use soap?? Am I wrong to think that's just common courtesy? I just don't want my twins getting sick. I'm disgusted by the germs floating around and her touching everything. Groan...thanks for listening.
