To me, she just sounds motherly and caring but I can see how it would get annoying. My mom is the same way but it's just who she is.

She sounds super annoying, so I don't think you are being overly sensitive because you are pregnant. I think what would irritate me the most would be the puffy face comment. That's so insulting!

That definitely sounds annoying! I can definitely relate. My MIL grates on my nerves sooooo much! Just try to tell yourself that her concern over the triathlon and your eating comes out of love and paranoia, not judgment of you (though I know it is difficult). The boy and puffy face comments are super annoying though for sure.

My MIL visited this weekend. A random neighbor walking by, whom I had never met, saw that I was pregnant and started lecturing me about home births, hypno birthing classes, unmedicated being the best method, and vegan diets. When she left, my MIL was like "she was sooooooooooo nice!" I was just like "I thought she was rude and bitchy", and MIL looked at me like I was crazy. Lately I have just been trying to write off her behavior as kooky instead of get annoyed, which is so hard sometimes! She drives me NUTS!

ETA: Many older people are unaware that pregnant women can even exercise, let alone run a triathlon, so she may have just needed an education from your DH.

My MIL is driving me crazy during my pregnancy!

We aren't finding out the sex of the baby until it's born so every time we see her she starts talking about what the baby is. She really wants it to be a boy so she proclaims it is going to be a boy. I do not feel the need to talk about what the sex is going to be every time we see each other. I truly don't care if it's a boy or a girl, I just want it to be healthy. A few weeks ago she said she knew it was a boy and when we asked why she said "it's a boy because your face is puffy" and proceeded to touch her cheeks with her fingers as she said it to demonstrate where my face is supposedly puffy. I was so taken aback I just said sarcastically "gee, thanks a lot". And the thing is, my face is not puffy at all! But who says that to someone when they are pregnant?!

And she constantly worries about everything. She found out I was doing a triathlon yesterday at 23 weeks and I'm sure she had a panic attack. I could hear my husband on the phone with her yesterday and his one-sided convo with her assuring her that I've asked my doctor about my activity level and that they have said yes to everything I want to do. Then I could hear him assuring her I'm not eating soft cheeses, or fish high in mercury, then deli meats. The lady is insane. I am a 31 year old adult and do not need her input on what my activity levels are or what I am eating. And why start worrying about what I'm eating now at 23 weeks? She is not a doctor and no one asked her opinion. My own parents don't even act like her. They don't say a darn thing and just ask how the baby and I are doing when we talk.

Not sure if I'm just irrationally annoyed because I'm pregnant but I feel like I'm going to go off on her next time I hear any crap about what I'm doing or eating.
