It is a unique gift and at least it won't be hanging out at the bottom of the toy box next year. Yes, it's a thoughtful gesture, but a little too easy for inlaws to take from it without our knowledge, etc. My MIL is not known for being smart with investments, etc., so having it be a savings account that DH and I can't even access is unsettling. Just accept and be nice about it. I have to bit my tongue on all of the things MIL does in relation to gifts and LO. I still roll my eyes at them creating a savings account for LO not a 529 plan for him. It doesn't sit with me well for long term savings. I don't even know what to think.. He's 18 months old. If he was into astronomy, I'd get it but it seems like a waste for an 18 month old. I had suggested duplos or even contribution to 529 plan... ughhhhh </p>
