Also, colic-like symptoms, eczema and explosive poops even while EBFing because I didn't know and ate (and still eat!) a lot of dairy. Never any blood in the stool though. When I switched him to Similac Alimentum, it was like night and day. One (as recommended by the ped) was to put vaseline on at every diaper change. This helped create a protective barrier for his skin and made it more gentle when we wiped. I also found that both baking soda and oatmeal in the bath worked awesome. For the oatmeal, you can either grind it up really fine and put it in the water, or you can just put plain oats in a knotted stocking and let it sit in the tub. Warning, it makes baby very slippery. Both have eczema, which clued me in with my first. Eliminating the milk in my diet helped with his skin issues. DS2 had green/mucus poop with blood, spit up a lot around the clock, eczema, and recurrent diaper rash issues (that we just resolved at 7 months). </p> <p>DS1 still has a milk allergy at 3 years old, but the levels are going down. There is a big chance he will outgrow it. I think I was hyper aware though because my first had an egg allergy so I was very vigilant about it. So first she had congestion, then mucousy poops, diaper rash, discomfort, distended belly and then at 4.5 months, blood. We tried a soy based formula because the pediatrician recommended it and it also gave her hives. The pediatrician switched her to Similac Alimentum and she's been great on it. He has had a miserable rash on his bum since the day we left the hospital; it's so bad that he has sores that won't heal. And it's only where his poop touches his skin. It's clear that his poop is toxic. That was the first thing that made me think there was something about the formula that wasn't working, but I forgot. She was around 12 weeks old but was fine with dairy in my diet though. </p> <p>We are now trying to determine if whole milk is an issue for her as well.
