@agold: yes, they both nursed at bedtime to some point but when they lost interest I did not replace it with anything, just cut it from the routine. They weaned completely by 14m and 18m, but had stopped bedtime earlier than that. I think it might be easier to give up nursing than a bottle since a bottle comes easier.

@bhbee: That's very interesting! So did they stop bottles altogether? No milk when putting to sleep? Ha.. too late for my oldest girl who drinks a ridiculous amount of babas each day still. But maybe for my youngest girl I could try to stop bottles altogether.

@agold: actually both my older ones went to no milk once they stopped nursing - neither liked cow milk! Water with meals. My oldest learned to like it and my middle still doesn’t drink milk. If they can eat other dairy it seems to be fine with most drs from what I’ve seen on here, substituting isn’t required.

Looks like my second baby is going to start drinking pea milk.

Does everyone's babies just switch fine from exclusively breast milk to cow milk? Its been a week, and my baby is getting about 1/3 breast milk and 2/3 cow milk 4 days week and she just started getting the most excruciating poops and diaper rash. I can't do it to her. She's off cow milk and I'm hoping pea milk works or else I'm going to get my pump back out.

My oldest daughter had a hard time with regular milk once I finally stopped breast feeding her (around 14 months). I asked about what to do on here, and some of these girls suggest Ripple milk, which is pea milk. That's what I went with and its been great. I have since had a hard time finding Ripple milk, but my store starting carrying pea milk by Bolthouse Farms and its pretty much the same. I'm just now getting my littlest baby onto milk and didn't know what to do. We have her on regular cow milk right now, but its been less than a week and I'm still not sure if I should put her on the pea milk or keep trying cow milk. Best of luck to you whatever you end up trying!

ETA: both kids eat cheese and siggi yogurts and tolerate those fine. It was the poop that caused me to notice a problem with my oldest girl. I have never done allergy testing. My pediatrician suggested soy milk, but girls on hellobee discouraged me from trying that.

DD2 is/was sensitive to dairy and it manifested itself moreso around 12m when we started giving her cows milk. She also did well with yogurt as far as we could tell. We had her on soy milk and eliminated ALL dairy for a few months and have slowly introduced it back in. She's finally drinking cow milk okay at daycare now at 21m (we made the switch about a month ago). We don't give it at home, but also don't limit her if she wants cheese or yogurt as long as she seems to be doing well.

For DD2, her reactions were mostly extreme gas and discomfort (usually somewhat delayed - hit around bedtime through 11pm). She'd wake up screaming and writhing in pain. She does have eczema that manifested around 6m, but she still had it when we eliminated dairy and it's actually milder recently so I don't think it's closely related to the dairy.

@bhbee: DD is 4 and dairy causes eczema flares for her. It's definitely lessened in severity over the past couple years. I also had a dairy allergy as a kid.

DD does not drink milk and never has. Pediatrician said it was not necessary to offer a replacement, just make sure she gets good sources of Vitamin D (esp. due to our location). She freely eats cheese (hard and soft) and yogurt. If she has a flare up, we scale back and moderate a bit more. Many days, she has very little dairy products, others she has several servings.

ETA: We did allergy testing, but unrelated to the identified dairy issue. It was clear as day the dairy was an issue...it first flared around 11 months when we offered her WCM as a breast milk replacement.

I’m just curious what your experience was if anyone dealt with this. I’m not overly worried about it as I also had a milk allergy growing up but my mom has no memory of the details :silly:

We think baby (9m) also has allergies to eggs (like scrambled) and raspberries, so far. Thankfully peanut is fine. These guesses are based on hives and bumpy bright red rash from skin contact, as well as crying and refusal to eat more. I’m seeing the pedi soon so planning to ask of course but looking to see what it was like for others.

What was your baby able to eat related to milk? So far she seems ok with baby yogurt (doesn’t fuss) so I thought maybe it was different but I did notice a contact bumpy rash on her arm today - so prolonged contact was bad. Baked goods like bread have not seemed problematic. But a couple things with more pronounced milk ingredient were a no go (like she tried Mac n cheese).

Also, did you do any testing related to this or just wait it out? When/if did your baby grow out of it? Did you do a milk substitute after 1? She’s still bf and me having dairy hasn’t been an issue and I have another kid who doesn’t like milk so still won’t drink it at 4 (but eats other dairy).

Thanks for any experience!
