I pumped to help start a freezer stash. Only once a day, and not even everyday.

@SeptMomma12: Its definitely okay to pump to relieve the pressure a bit. Even better would be hand expressing in the shower. Be careful about using ice/cold for too long, cold generally discouraged lactation. However during the engorgement process your actual breast tissue swell so some cold and anti inflammatory meds are ok but only for a few days. Its said that cabbage leaves help with inflammation as well. Feed the baby as much as possible, that will be the best help! If she isn't a strong feeder you may need to be pumping.

@SeptMomma12: I agree with trying to just hand express or do a quick pump. I was always so worried about tying to build supply!

i would build my freezer stash for back up ;) but if that's not a priority, hand express a bit at a time. either way (even if you pump like crazy), your body will regulate around 3 months!

I pumped to relieve the pressure and start my freezer stash. Not a lot, but enough so that I wasn't in pain.

I wouldn't pump, but hand expressing in a hot shower should give you a little relief without creating oversupply. It'll pass very soon!

I agree with @QBbride: Ibuprofen, ice packs if you need them and feed that baby! It will get better soon!

Congratulations!

Ahh don't pump!! Your body will regulate - give it time. If you pump you'll continue to make too much milk. You can use cold packs on your breasts and Advil if needed. Also get your babe to feed as much as you can!

Congrats!

I'm two days postpartum and my milk came in full force this afternoon. I know that's a good thing but holy engorgement  She just fed and I got a bit of relief on one side but she was too full to make any kind of dent on the other side. The nurse thinks I should be pumping now, but I'm afraid that will only encourage my body to produce even more milk. I've got an ice pack on the breast she didn't eat much just to make it feel a little better.

Any tips?
