I've tried Medela, Lansinoh, and Honeysuckle... and Honeysuckle is by far the best bag - they're soo sturdy and well made. I've never had a leaking problem with them.

I usually pump into Medela bottles then pour into bags. Then I lay the bag in the fridge flat... once it's frozen I put it upright according to date in a storage unit.

@hellobeeboston: I didn't know this. I use them for daycare, so I've only sent one frozen Target bag there recently. My daycare lady doesn't like the Lansinoh ones because they're not sturdy. She hasn't minded the Target ones.

@JessiBee: I have used the Lansinoh, Medela and Honeysuckle and I like the Honeysuckle the best. Medela bags are smaller and I like pumping into bottles anyway because it gives me a more accurate measurement. The Honeysuckle bags are thicker than the Lansinoh bags and they have a double ziplock closure. When bought in smaller quantities I believe that they are about the same price, but if you buy in bulk Honeysuckle is cheaper.

I like the Lansinoh freezer bags. I pump into bottles and then pour into the bag. you'll get a more accurate amount of ounces. When I was on maternity leave, I just pumped when I could. Once LO started consistently sleeping longer, I would pump right before I went to bed every night.

we use lansinoh bags. The customer service is great. I had a couple of bags leak and I emailed the company and they sent me new bags. Also freeze your bags flat...i think I was the only person who didnt know to do this.

I usually buy them through amazon they're a little cheaper there

I have the Target brand bags & they leak when they unfreeze!

When I am going to thaw a bag now I have to put the Medela bag in another ziplock bag to catch the milk that comes out.

So NO to Target brand.

@JessiBee: I was pumped in addition to feeds not in place of a feed, that that meant pumping between nursing, when LO was sleeping or in the middle of the night. It also helps your supply if you try to pump at the same times each day.

Thank you all for the feedback and advice!

I have some Lansinoh and Medela bag samples here, so I will try those, and I'll look at the Target brand ones the next time I'm there. I'm all for saving money somewhere when I can! @mediagirl: I love the idea of not having to wash everything in between, but the idea of putting straight-from-the-fridge parts on my...parts...sounds really...cold!

Now I just have to figure out when to pump (besides the one early in the morning (today: 4:30) feed when DH gives her a bottle, so that I can get a little further ahead. Not looking to build a huge stash (we only have the freezer attached to the fridge, so not that much space), just trying to have a little bit extra.

- I have only used the Medela ones. They work fine and have a good seal.
- I pump into bottles, then pour into bags. I like to have an even amount in the bags so, I'll pour 5oz into a bag when I've accumulated that much and freeze it.
- Store your milk in the fridge until you have a good amount. Freeze once you have 5 or 6oz to freeze at a time. If you're home and pumping, unhook your pump parts and then put them in your fridge between pump sessions - saves you from cleaning them all the time!

I prefer to pump into the bottles because I feel like it gives me a more accurate idea of how many ounces I've produced, then poor into bags.

Personally, I don't like the Medela Pump and Save bags. I lost a few ounces one morning when it popped open leaving for daycare. I've used Lansinoh bags. They're good, no complaints. I prefer the Target brand Up & Up bags. You get twice as many for the price of a pack of Lansinoh bags. They're sturdier as well.

ETA: I pump into bottles, then transfer to milk storage bags. I've been pumping into 2.5 oz bottles recently. Today, I'm switching over to 5 oz ones. At the end of the day or when the bottle's full, I'll put it in a milk storage bag.

I always pump into bottles. I've mostly used Lansinoh bags, but I've just started using Honeysuckle bags. I've not defrosted them yet, but so far they seem better than the Lansinoh.

The only bags I used were the Lansinoh bags, which were okay but I had problems with them leaking when they were defrosting. This often happened when I was defrosting the 5 or 6 oz bags. I always pumped into bottles and then transferred the milk to the bags.

I personally prefer the Lansinoh bags. I have also used the Nuk ones and had samples of the Gerber and Medela ones. They do not seal, are more awkward to pour into and the milk does not last as long, IMO, in them. You can get Medela bags that hook onto your connections so you can pump right into the bags, but they are more pricey. You can also rig it up DIY style, but I preferred to pump into the bottles, chill the milk and freeze it later.

For freezing I was advised by our pedi to chill the milk in the fridge, freeze completely in the regular freezer and once completely frozen move to the deep freezer for long term storage as to make sure the core of the bags freeze completely. If you plan on keeping your stash for the longer range recommended I would set the deep freezer to -4F.

For storing I found it best to freeze the bags laying flat. There is a milk storage container that compresses the bags so that they are flat, but I ended up just laying them on the lid anyway. Freezing flat allows for less freezer space, more even freezing and they also thaw out quicker. Clearly label your bags with the date and how many ounces. Once my bags were frozen flat I would stack them into a gallon ziplock bag and store 11 6 oz bags in each gallon bag and then transport that to the deep freezer. I labeled the gallon bags with the date ranges of the milk inside to keep things organized.

I use the Medela Pump and Save bags, but you can really use any kind of bag (lots of folks like the Lansinoh bags).

My Medela bags came with adapters that allow you to pump straight into the bag instead of pumping into a bottle and then transferring the milk to a bag (easier said than done, and there is always a little bit lost during the transfer).

I'm new to pumping, and so far all I've done is put a couple of bottles in the fridge. So I have questions about milk storage bags:
- Are all brands about the same, or are there features on some brands that are useful?
- Would I pump into the bottles as usual, and then pour into the bags, or is there a way to pump directly into the bags?
- What else should I know? I'm not looking to build a huge freezer stash, just a little backup. DD is four weeks, and at the moment I'm replacing one nursing a day with a bottle, and the last two days she's eaten 5 oz at that feeding and I've pumped 7. I have the Medela pump in style advanced.

Thank you!
