I don't recall the solution to kill them. My dad used to put some kind of stinky powder along the edge of the doorways and window sills. The problem was gone pretty much overnight. I read it on some blog. And we did it again at the first sight of them this year and again gone overnight</p> <p>Buy an ant trap thing (it's ant food with poison). You can get it at the grocery store or at Home Depot. It says just to peel off the backing and leave it out. NO - not enough. Take some utility scissors and a flat piece of cardboard and cut the plastic trap open so you can pop out the tiny square of ant food. Place it on the cardboard. Take a toothpick or plastic fork/knife and kind of cut the ant food into small pieces. Cover all the pieces in tons of honey. Place it by the path where you see the ants coming to and from. Make sure no pets or kids can get to it. Or explain to your kids to stay away. I did it after bedtime anyway and overnight was enough time. The ants will swarm the honey covered food and it will be crazy town. They need to carry the food back to the nest to kill all the ants there and kill the queen. We mixed some liquid dish soap and water and sprayed anywhere we saw one, which kills them instantly and also gets rid of the scent they leave behind to communicate a trail to their ant friends. They have gotten a lot better and now we only see one or two every once in a while. We also have to be really careful leaving any dishes on the counter because we'll come back an hour later and there will be 10 ants on the leftover food residue so I guess they smell it. </p> <p>I'm glad we only have the super tiny ones. It's still gross, but not as bad as having a swarm of big ants patrolling around.</p> <p>We did buy these little ant traps that were supposed to kill them, but they did nothing at all; I think they were little raid packets or something you put down and they have holes for the ants to crawl in and get the poison and take it out.</p> <p>Also, it's good to look for where they are coming from and where they are headed too so you can see if there is something that needs either blocking with caulking or cleaning up. My husband followed them along their trail one day and saw they were going in our tea cupboard where there was a bottle of honey...which wasn't leaking or anything, but it may have been on the shelf or something from someone using it. That wasn't the only food they were interested in, but when we wiped out that cupboard it did get better for a day. I can't remeber what it's called, but there is a poison that comes in an orange box. You put a few drops of the poison on little cardboard squares and put the squares in the path. We didn't want to pay their fees so we are basically putting out traps, sealing off the kibble better and we need to caulk some of their entry points (like under the dishwasher...which is why we haven't done it yet!).
