Loved it! Had it for 2.5 years with no side effects or complications at all. Periods were much lighter too and I got pregnant about 2 months after removal.

I had one for almost 2 years, and it was super convenient. The only bad side effect was that my sex drive seemed lower. Getting it put in wasn't nearly as painful as I had thought it would be, getting it taken out was only mildly uncomfortable, and I got pregnant a month and a half after removing it.

I had one for four years. No period the whole time. No unexpected pregnancies either. My fertility returned immediately post removal.
Loved it.

@miapugs: @beebug: I learned on my follow up visit that what happened with mine was that when my midwife inserted it she missed my uterus and embedded it in some tissue between my uterus and large intestine.

My only advice as you think it over would be to find out how many your doctor has inserted and if they have ever had any that were inserted incorrectly. I know what happened to us doesn't happen often, but it is a possibility.

I had Mirena for a little over a year and I hated it. I had constant spotting...it felt like I was on my period every 2 weeks. It was difficult getting mine out...my doctor almost couldn't find it...he was just about to give up to do an ultrasound to locate it but he was able to find where it had shifted/embedded and while it wasn't so painful it was SUPER uncomfortable getting it removed. My husband and I agree that I will never get an IUD again.

I'm really happy with mine. I had spotting on and off and some uncomfortable cramping for the first 6-8 weeks... then heaven! No periods, no problems, no having to think about BC. I also continued BF on Mirena with no issues for a year. ( I don't know if that's a concern for you, just throwing it in there that it didn't affect supply)

I had Mirena for three years. Had it removed in April & got pregnant in July. I plan to have another one because I had a good experience. It hurt the first day I had it put in but I think that's because I hadn't been pregnant before. My period never went away completely but it was super light.

I loved mirena. No cramps for 5 years and no awful nausea and moodiness like I had with all other bc.

My good friend had an ectopic pregnancy which burst her fallopian tubes though so these things do happen. Pay attention to your body and get medical attention if you experience anything indicative of a problem!

Overall I'm happy with it. It didn't hurt much to insert (literally like 2 seconds of pain). I spotted off and on for 6 weeks before months with nothing.

I do have off and on spotting now, though (I've had it for a little over a year), which is annoying. Over the summer I had like 6 weeks of light spotting for a few days then nothing, then starting up again. I went and had an U/S but everything looked normal....then it stopped again for several months, and now I'll have random spotting days.

A little inconvenient, but overall not a big problem. I love not having to worry about taking a pill or anything.

I loved my mirena while I had it! But my body ended up rejecting it (aka body tried to push it out) after a year, and while I had the mirena was the only time I had UTI's, but i miss the convenience of it!

I liked the Mirena. Although it was supposed to reduce the frequency of my period (I was getting it every two weeks) and it did not change that, but otherwise no issues. I used to get migraines from the pill. I took ibuprofen before getting the Mirena inserted and removed to ease the cramping. Otherwise I never knew it was there.

Hi folks,
I have my six week postpartum appointment coming up, and wanted to avoid going back on the pill if at all possible. I've heard some good and some bad things about Mirena, but right now I'm definitely leaning towards it as the best option. Does anyone have any experiences with Mirena to share?
