Seven weeks, then no period for 14 months. I just had it removed two weeks ago though to start ttc #2 and holy god the bleeding afterward. It was ten days of pure hell.

I think I bled for a couple weeks after I got it inserted. About 1 year later I get a lighter version of my regular period.

I was similar to @sandy: I hated my mirena. I really wanted to love it, but I spotted for six months straight and then I had it removed because I just couldn't take it anymore.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'll wait until 6 weeks to see if I'm still spotting. I'm hoping very much that I'll be in the "no period" camp - which is what sold me on the Mirena.

So I'm totally in the minority but I spotted nonstop while on Mirena - like spotted for weeks after it was inserted AND THEN spotted on and off the entire time I had it. I had maybe 2 weeks out of a month where I wasn't spotting. It was terrible and I hated it. Once I had it removed I went back to just having a regular period. I hated that thing so much

@Smurfette: I am only 4 1/2 months pp so I don't know if that affects it? My ob said periods should get lighter and some people have them disappear entirely.

If I'm remembering correctly, I had some spotting for a few days afterward but that was it.

After about 2 years I stopped having a period altogether.

@Smurfette: I actually ended up getting mine removed around 6 weeks. I developed nasty side effects and thought the continual bleeding was ridiculous.

Pretty much the same as @Eko: . I had some super light breakthrough spotting every few months after (like for *maybe* a day), but never a real period.

I didn't have any bleeding right away but then had spotting for about a month. My ob said it was normal. No periods since but I am EBF still.

I spotted the day I got it and for about a week afterward, but it was very minor. In the year-ish that I've had it, I've only had one period.

I didn't bleed when I got it. At least I don't remember. I was also 10 weeks PP so lack of sleep could have me forgetting.

Since then I have a period each month. But it is 5-7 days of spotting. I maybe have to use one tampton a month. I'm not looking forward to my regular full on period when I get it out.

If you had/have the Mirena, how long did you bleed after insertion and how often do you bleed/spot?

I've had mine almost 2 weeks. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I feel like I instantly bloated and got a heavy period that is like on 2 days, off a day, on again 2 days, off, and so on. I know the doc said some bleeding and cramping is normal. Just reading some horror stories and need to hear how long this can go on before I should be worried.
