First time before having a baby and I just took a couple tylenol, it hurt but was over so quick. I just got it inserted again at 6 weeks pp and again only took tylenol and it was only a minor pinch this time. I don't recall if she took the pill or not. I had it before a uterine surgery and it hurt. I was crampy all night long. I then had the Mirena without it a few weeks later and while that hurt like a mofo, the pain went away. I think I'd just skip it. Since you've given birth, it might not even hurt. I had heard horror stories from women about the insertion being painful, but mine was fine. No big deal at all. It made me really sick to my stomach and the insertion still hurt like a mofo. When I made the appointment she said I had the option for them to prescribe a pill to be inserted vaginally the day before and the morning of. I can't remember the name but I believe she said it was to dilate the cervix a bit (I think, I'm not sure).</p> <p>I need to call if I want it so I can pick it up in time. She said it's not necessary since I just gave birth but makes it more comfortable for some people. I'm leaning toward not getting it but was wondering if anyone used the pill? Was it necessary? </p>
