My insertion kinda sucked. I had lower stomach/hip cramping for the following 24hrs and then it was great. Some spotting for a month or two and then nothing at all.

I have had Mirena twice now. First time before having a baby and I just took a couple tylenol, it hurt but was over so quick. I just got it inserted again at 6 weeks pp and again only took tylenol and it was only a minor pinch this time. I guess it just depebds, everyone is different

Didnt use a pill, wasn't necessary. It was really just a quick pinch and a little cramping while she placed it. Not painful at all. I got it inserted at 6 weeks pp.

I had mine put in without having had kids and it was awful, I was cramping so badly I had to pull over and throw up, so I would take it :) The good news is I have had it for 3.5 years and I would do it again in a heartbeat, it has been awesome for me!

My friend had mirena put in a couple months ago (a year after she gave birth), and she said it was pretty painful. I don't recall if she took the pill or not. She also blacked out while standing up after the procedure and was sent to ER to be hooked up to an IV and get a CT scan since she bumped her head during her fall.

I suggest you have someone take you and pick you up just in case!

It's called Cervadil, I think. I had it before a uterine surgery and it hurt. I was crampy all night long. I then had the Mirena without it a few weeks later and while that hurt like a mofo, the pain went away. I think I'd just skip it. Since you've given birth, it might not even hurt. I had mine before I was pregnant.

I had my mirena put in 9 weeks postpartum, and I had almost no pain. I didn't have anything to dilate the cervix, but I did take 800 mg of ibuprofen about an hour ahead of the appointment.

I did tylenol, ibuprofen and the pill thing after having a baby. I had heard horror stories from women about the insertion being painful, but mine was fine. No big deal at all. I just stuck the pills in myself (not the tylenol, etc, just the prescribed one).

I didn't get offered that pill but was instructed to take two tylenol and two ibuprofen before insertion.........and it was still really freaking uncomfortable. I also had mine put in before having had kids.

I got a pill before my mirena and it sounds like the pill they are offering you. It made me really sick to my stomach and the insertion still hurt like a mofo. But, I got it inserted before I had kids which is suppose to hurt more.

I'm set to get Mirena inserted on Monday. When I made the appointment she said I had the option for them to prescribe a pill to be inserted vaginally the day before and the morning of. I can't remember the name but I believe she said it was to dilate the cervix a bit (I think, I'm not sure).

I need to call if I want it so I can pick it up in time. She said it's not necessary since I just gave birth but makes it more comfortable for some people. I'm leaning toward not getting it but was wondering if anyone used the pill? Was it necessary?
