I have the basic Brica one from target. it's so lightweight even if it whapped her in the face, it would likely only startle her! I had it hooked into the latch system but it was ruining the headrest so I looped it into itself. it's not going anywhere.

@PrincessBaby: That's the mirror I was looking at! Do you use the remote feature and does it come in handy or do you think a plain mirror would be just as good?

Thanks for all the input! I am kind of leaning toward yes now, although I have been dead set against mirrors the whole time.

I liked having mine, though at 1 yo we don't use it much anymore. Though DH was always afraid I'd be too interested in checking on her then with the cars around me.

we have the brica baby in sight one too. it's really light/soft, so I think it would be pretty safe in an accident, I can't imagine not seeing them while driving.

I have one from BBB that is oneof the big ones, and has a remote control to turn a light on so I can see her in the dark, and also plays music. We've had to go somewhere in the car every day so far and I reeally couldnt stand throwing hr back there and feeling so cut off from her/not knowing what's going on with her, so I'm super glad we got one!

I thought about this, too, and ultimately decided to go ahead and get them. I thought of it after I read that that AAP recommends the kind of sun shade that clings to your window, rather than the kind the sticks on with suction cups, because in the even of an accident the latter can come loose and be a projectile. That's when I was like, "Well, wait, what about the mirrors?" But the mirrors are a) padded and not made of hard plastic or glass, b) attached REALLY firmly to the headrest, and c) not of a shape that would essentially become a spear! For me, I know I will feel more confident/comfortable knowing that if baby starts to cry (or gets eerily quiet all of a sudden), I can just glimpse in the mirror and check on him, rather than either sitting there worrying or pulling over to check on him.

We have one and its clicked onto the metal clip behind the seat that is used to secure forward facing carseats. The strap is high quality so honestly I don't see it going anywhere! we love our mirror and it has been a lifesaver for is

We have the Brica one as well. I know they say it isnt safe, but its not a "real" mirror, so it isnt hard or real glass, its just a reflective surface. it really helps. we have had this from the beginning and my 8 month old loves looking at herself

I think if you get one, go for practical and well made. Think wide, rectangular and secure. Babies are more apt to play with their own toys in their hands. I don't have the brand of mine right now but it is as described earlier. The one in our other car (with a monkey on it) is too small.

Mine attaches to the head rest and I'm so glad I have it. Every time she coughs, chokes if she spits up, anything, I look in the mirror to see if she is okay.

It made us feel better to be able to see whether she was okay or needed help. Now she LOVES looking at herself :)

obviously baby girl isn't here yet, but we got a cute little mirror from BRU that appears to be really safe. with the way it wraps around the headrest, i can't imagine that it would come off in a crash. but, even if it did, the mirror probably ways less than a pound and is padded on all sides, so i don't see how it could ever harm her. after nannying my nephew i know that the mirror is absolutely necessary for me!

i prefer the black nondescript ones, but we got this one because it was on sale: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12410712

I bought one, couldn't figure out how to install it, and then a friend who is a social worker told me that in her carseat safety course, they are told to never use them. So I returned it and honestly I've never really wished I had one.

I bought what I thought was a simple, tasteful one for our car and it did the job just fine. Then my mom got LO this one, so it's what we use now: http://www.target.com/p/baby-einstein-music-discover-travel-mirror/-/A-13951115?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C13951115&CPNG=Baby&kpid=13951115&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=13951115

It is tacky and a little annoying, but LO seems to like it!

I've heard that car seat mirrors are unsafe in an accident (could go flying into the car seat) but I've also heard they can be a lifesaver with a screaming baby. Also, the instructor in my CPR class told this story about how her son almost choked to death on a toy that came apart while in his car seat...I'm thinking that she wouldn't have known he was turning blue if there was no mirror. If I get one and attach it to a headrest, is that considered safe? Seems like a sturdy anchor. Also, I saw a Fisher Price mirror that was tacky but has lights and sounds you can control from the front seat--wouldn't that be handy if you're alone in the car with a fussy baby that wants to be entertained?

Please share your mirror experience--do you have one? Why or why not? Which one? Etc.
