I know this is old... but I'm trying to find answers.
I was prescribed this in preparation for an IUD insertion today. About 4 hours later, I began bleeding. I went on to my appointment and was told I was spotting due to the softening of my cervix. I am NOT spotting. I'm having what looks like a full period. My last period was 5/5/18 but very light. That's unusual because they are very heavy normally. I chalked it up to the fact that we're at Disney world walking a ton and even told my husband how excersize must really help because it was so light. Can anyone tell me if the experienced bleeding following the insertion of the pill? Thank you all.

This seems unnecessary unless there is a known reason insertion would be difficult. I'm on my second Mirena. First was before childbirth, and while it hurt like a mother, I still wouldn't have taken anything besides Advil. The second one hurt for a split second too. Just seems excessive...I err on the side of keeping meds out of my system.

I had one before LO so I remember taking some medication before. Even with that it was incredibly painful. I had a second Mirena placed at 3 mos PP and same OB didn't suggest anything. And I was fine.

I was told it's unnecessary if you do it postpartum, but is typical for insertions done in women who haven't given birth.

I only prescribe it if the patient has not had any vaginal deliveries and even then I'll usually give it a try without it first. However some will prescribe it for all who have not had vaginal deliveries. Seems like overkill in your situation but maybe your provider has had better luck doing it this way.

I went to have one put in around 12 weeks PP I think. I didn't take anything, and they couldn't get it in. They wrote me a prescription for that and told me to come back and they'd try again ( a few weeks later.) So I took it, went back and they still couldn't get in. They were going to send me to a specialist to get it put in, but after all that, we decided we were going to try for #3, so I never went.

I wouldn't bother if this isn't your first rodeo. I insert them and only have patients use that if they've never had kids and we had a failed placement attempt (which if they come in on their periods as instructed almost never happens).

I've had two kids and just got the Mirena inserted for the first time recently. I didn't take anything prior and it was totally fine. A couple cramps when they measured me and then inserted it and then I was good to go! If you've had it before and didn't have issues with the insertion, I'd skip taking the meds.

I did Mirena before I even had kids and it didn't hurt. I wouldn't take the misoprostol - seems totally unnecessary.

if you don't feel comfortable with it and have been through it before, i think you are totally legit in saying no to the misoprostol. my experience was that the insertion was uncomfortable but definitely tolerable.

I had mine put in 8 weeks PP and it hurt for a half second when she put it in. Like one hard cramp. That's it! I wouldn't want to take something that purposely dilates my cervix if it had mixed reviews, anyways....

Any experience with this? I had Mirena before LO2 and didn't take this. Insertion was kind of a bad cramp/pinch for like a second then some light cramping/spotting for a couple of days. It was really no big deal. I go to a different doctor and she said she prescribes misoprostol to take four hours before any IUD insertion. I looked this up and it seems totally mixed on if it's necessary and any side effects either way. I'm thinking of not taking it since I've had two babies, my experience was fine last time, and I'm having my period so I thought that made it easier anyway? Any experiences/info is appreciated! I go tomorrow so I'll need to decide soon!
