@Kaohinani: Thanks for the information. When I was trying to get pregnant I tracked my cycles using bbt and cervical mucus regularly. Since I have resumed cycles, I have only recorded the start/end of my cycles and what my cervical mucus has been like. I barely had any cervical mucus this cycle so it was hard to tell what was going on. I had a feeling it would be a longer cycle but I didn't expect it to be this long. It's good to know that cycles can be wonky for up to 2 years following childbirth.

@Tionn3: I see that you are, indeed, going to write to your provider if you are still concerned, which is fantastic.
FWIW, cycles can be irregular in those following child birth (and BFing) for 2 years. Beyond that, a woman's follicular phase can vary month-to-month (while one's luteal phase may only deviate by a few days +/-) ... If a woman isn't tracking (OPKs, BBT, CD 21 bloodwork, ultrasound), she may not be aware if she ovulates "later" in a cycle, therefore, she may not actually be late. An example using a woman who has a regular "perfect" 28-day with a CD14 ovulation is as follows: If she ovulates later one month (let's say on CD 20 instead of CD 14) and then her Luteal phase extends a day to a 15-day LP; her actual cycle that month would be 35 days long. (Please note - IDK if this is actually your case, so forgive me if you diligently track and know when you ovulated). Also, please consider that most healthy women have between 1 and 3 anovulatory cycles a year. In that scenario, the woman may have spotting or a lesser mid-cycle bleed (but not an actual "period") a bit after AF was actually due (which makes it seem she is "late") before her body attempts to generate a secondary or tertiary LH surge during the extended cycle to actually ovulate. In most cases, the woman assumes she is late until a scant bleed and then, about 2 weeks post her "following cycle's" ovulation (which is actually STILL the same cycle), she will think she had a short cycle when her AF arrives. (Once again, I apologize if this isn't your situation, as well as, if you had already considered this).
In any case, you are absolutely normal and I am glad you have the option to contact your OBGYN if the need persists.

Thanks everyone! It's good to hear what other people's obgyn's say. I guess I could always send my provider an email if I get super worried, but I'll just wait a little longer.

I went through something like this and my OBGYN advised that it's actually more common than people think. Obviously schedule.an appointment if you're super worried. My doc actually laughed at me when I suggested perimenopause and said that was not very likely, even at 36. Her explanation basically boiled down to "bodies are just weird".

My provider says not to call unless 3 cycles are wonky. 5 days isn't super late so I'd wait a while longer.

I got my period back at 6 months postpartum and for the most part it's been pretty regular ( the first two cycles were super long but I was breastfeeding so I expected that). I stopped breastfeeding in March and everything has been business as usual. I'm now on my 12th cycle and I've officially missed my period. I'm 5 days late. I've taken a pregnancy test and it's negative. I've never been this late before. We haven't been having unprotected sex so I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. We're not ttc. I don't know if this is normal or if I should be calling my obgyn (although what would they do)? It took us 14 months to get pregnant with our son, so of course my mind is going to the " OMG what if I'm going into perimenopause at 30!"

Has anyone else experienced something like this?
