The first baby looks like somewhat of a mix -- although racially he definitely appears more African American. Their second child however... has white skin, blond hair, and blue eyes! He looks just like his grandpa on his mom's side, and not at all like his dad. Our friends have definitely suffered through a lot of "mailman" comments as a result of baby #2's looks. They seem to be taking it w/ good humor, but I'm willing to bet they're more than a little annoyed underneath the surface. I'm Vietnamese and hubs is German/random white euro mix. I think our LO is going to look more like me, but of course I'm hoping for a good mix of both of us! Our LO doesn't look Asian at all. Everyone thinks she looks like DH. I think DH must have stronger genes than me because our first baby, now an angel baby, also looked like DH, and didn't look Asian at all either. But our two babies also don't look like each other, yet, somehow, they both look like DH. I'm half German, quarter Polish and English with brown hair, brown eyes and light olive skin....DS is pale skinned, blue eyes and a blondish hair that looks red in certain light. As a kiddo he looked really Asian, but now that he is older he looks more Caucasian than he used to. He still looks mixed to me though. As for the LO, I am very intruiged to see because I am black so we have no idea what she will look like. Our lo definitely looks more asian but he also looks a lot like his dad. I have a friend who has very fair skin and red hair. Her husband is Chinese. Their little guy is very chinese looking because of his eyes but he had red hair! On my husband's side the blue eyes and blond hair has actually been recessive. On my husband's generation only him and his cousin had blonde hair and blue eyes. But the kids of his generation they almost all have blonde hair and blue eyes! It's like the gene skipped a generation! Another Asian married to a German! DH is half German and a quarter Irish and something else. I can't remember. I'm Vietnamese.I'm not sure what my BIL and SIL are but my nephews all look more Asian when they are young. Since the dark hair and brown eyes are dominant. With one of my nephews, he turned more Caucasian as he got older. My other nephew is still young. I know it's a very rare but I wish one of my kids would get my DH's blue eyes. There was great debate in the hospital as to who Jack Jack looks like. The AA side was swearing that her nose was theirs, while the asian side swore it was theirs. Personally, I think she looks a lot like her birth momma! Still, the nice thing is that because of my dark hair/eyes and olive skin, most people thinks she's my baby at this point and I don't correct them unless the adoption conversation comes up. I am, however, enjoying hearing how great I look for just having a baby! Baby Y started out looking pretty much exactly like his dad, but now everyone says he's starting to look like me (I am English/Welsh/German). His hair has gotten much lighter; it's pretty much my shade now (medium brown with reddish highlights) and his eyes have rounded out, too, though they still have a beautiful almond shape and you can definitely see the Asian depending on his mood. He also has my cheeks/mouth, but is definitely rocking his dad's nose. I'm 1/2 Cuban, 1/2 white, and I look like a brown version of my mom, haha. I got a lot of the German/Irish features in my mom's family (complete with freckles!) but I have dark skin and eyes and dark curly hair like my Cuban side. Even though I think I am the spitting image of my mom, people always say I look more like my dad because of my coloring. DH is African-American, with very "afro-y" hair and dark skin. I think the fact that they will be 1/4 white and 3/4 "ethnic" means that they will look more like DH to most people who pay more attention to skin/eye/hair than actual features. He doesn't like when I say this though, and always says they could turn out to look more like my family than his! @regberadaisy: I worry that my kids will not look like me and people will think they are not biologically my children and ask prying questions. I also irrationally worry that if they like look more like DH's family that they will identify with that side of their family more, which is dumb because that wasn't the case for me or my brother. I had a friend growing up whose father was Japanese and whose mother was Irish. They had 2 boys. One (my friend) looked entirely Japanese. You would have no idea he was half Irish. His brother, on the other hand, looked entirely Irish. Yesterday we went to the Asian mart and it's the first time it's warm enough where my bump was exposed. The staff was literally staring at me for a good while. His wife is half Chinese, half Caucasian (not sure of her roots there). She got her Dad's (the Chinese side) looks with dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. My nephew is 4 months old now and my Mom and I swear he looks like no one in our family. The boy still has blue eyes and is growing some dark hair. He has slightly almond shaped eyes, but they are wider than my SIL's. He has the most beautiful little bow lips and button nose. I can't wait to see what he looks like when he grows up but right now he looks like a good mix of the two of them.
