@ladybee: the measles outbreak didn't reach my state either, but my obgyn offered a blood test at my iud removal appt and they called back today, saying I wasn't immune and suggested getting vaccinated. The vaccination rate in my state is beyond what's considered necessary for her immunity, so in hindsight, I'm actually a little surprised she suggested checking. I'm not sure what to do. I agree that waiting another month isn't a big deal, but on the other hand, the risk seems so small.

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice!

I found out while going through IF that I was no longer immune to rubella. They told me I'd have to wait 3 months to try and conceive. I was already in the middle of IF so I kept going and figured I'd get it after baby. That baby is now two and I'm pregnant with my second. I never got it and I'm not too worried about it but measles outbreak is not happening here.

@BandDmommy: absolutely! If you actually did get measles while pregnant and something happened to the baby, if that's an actual serious risk, how would you even deal.

I had the same issue, I was vaccinated as a child but somehow my body lost immunity to measles so luckily I did a blood test before TTC and got the vaccine again. I had to wait 3 months not just one month but it is not worth the risk to your fetus if you happen to get measles while pregnant. Serious deformities and problems can arise. I would absolutely get the shot and put off TTC for a few months.

@BandDmommy: no outbreaks where I live. Definitely would sway my decision if there were recent outbreaks in the city you live in.

I would absolutely wait.
In the scope of your lifetime four weeks is a blip. If you were to contract measles you'd risk major birth defects and still birth. That's not something I'd mess with.

You've gone how many years and never got the measles. What makes you think you'll get the measles while your pregnant? Is that your concern? I understand, if so. That's a tough situation. I have no knowledge if a pregnant mothers gets measles, will the baby in utero get it it as well. You might do some research and make your decision based on what you find out.

@Applesandbananas: how do you know you aren't immune? I don't really know what I would do but I guess waiting makes sense. I'm not too concerned for myself since there haven't been any outbreaks in my area but I'm curious if I've been checked and didn't know it.

I would make sure you're up to date before getting pregnant.

Four weeks isn't very long to wait, and you wouldn't want to risk measles while pregnant!

If you knew you were not immune to measles and were TTC, would you get the vaccine before continuing to TTC?

It is not recommended during pregnancy, and if you get the vaccine prior to getting pregnant, you are supposed to avoid pregnancy for at least four weeks after the vaccine is administered.

What would you do?

ETA: does your proximity to the Disneyland measles outbreak sway your decision?
