@Mrs. Pen: We ended up getting the MMR early. We haven't had her 12 month appt yet, it is on Monday, but we will probably ask at that point if we can delay getting it again until she is 15 months old.

@plantains: what did you end up doing? I was going to say in that situation I would have done the MMR early and then the second at the 15 mos wcc?

@regberadaisy: Yes, I think you are right. Good suggestion. I will probably end up doing that.

@plantains: I like Mrs Jacks suggestion just to be safe. FWIW M is getting her MMR shots at her 15 month well visit. So you *could* give M at 11 months then the rest at 15 month well visit.

@Mrs. Jacks: thank you soooo much! I was hoping you would weigh in but didn't want to pressure you:)

Just knowing the facts makes me feel better about it then. I think ideally I would prefer for her to have a break and be reimmunized at 13 or 14 months. I will talk it over with my ped when I see him on Friday.

I thought this was an interesting question, so I looked it up and talked to a specialist. The Red Book (our infectious disease bible) says "Children aged 6-11 months in epidemic situations should be immunized with monovalent (just the M part) if available or with MMR if monovalent is not available with reimunization at 12-15 months and a third dose is indicated at 4-6 years."

So I think you could immunize and then reimmunize at 15 months if that made you feel more comfortable. Only you and your provider can make the decision, but the recommendation is solid.

Twice in a month wouldn't sit well with me either. I'd definitely speak to the doctor (and maybe even get a professional second opinion).

I'm pro-vaccinations as well, but the twice in a month's time would bother me too. I would ask to perhaps speak to a doctor to find out why they want to give the vaccination again in such a short period of time.

That is weird. I don't understand why they would give her the MMR shot twice in one month (at 11 months and again at 12 months). I would ask them about that again, maybe it was a miscommunication and he meant she would get the rest of her shots at 12 months?

I'm really not sure. I know *most* babies get it at 12 months but M isn't getting hers till 15 months. And most if not all babies I know who got it had a adverse reaction to it. Very fussy, ran fever, etc. So even at 12 months it was rough, not sure how big of a difference one month makes though. Any other peds you know to get a second opinion on?
I would be quite opposed to getting it TWICE though.

BTW can you post or wall me the article? I'm not sure if my nephew got his at his 12 month appt and they are in Bklyn frequently!

@MamaMoose: Exactly. I am all for tehm pushing it up because I like the peace of mind of knowing that I did everything possible to protect her. I am just really iffy on her getting it again a month from now. Really iffy.

I could understand if they wanted to push it up and give it to her now given the circumstances... but I don't understand why she would get it AGAIN in a month? That wouldn't sit well with me either.

So there was a news article the other day reporting a measles outbreak in Brooklyn. We don't live in Brooklyn but are about 15 minutes away from one of the affected neighbourhoods. I forwarded the news alert to DH for information purposes. He freaked out and called the docs office this morning.

Doc's office is recommending that we bring DD in as soon as possible to have her vaccinated. They are also saying that because she is only 11 months old, she will have to get the MMR shot again in a month's time when she turns 1.

I am 100% pro vaccines, but for some reason this bothers me. I just wanted to know if any one has been in a similar situation or if any of the peds or immunologists on the boards could weigh in. Is this all on the up and up or should I be concerned?
