This is very out of the box. I can understand having a baby and raising it with a friend who you're not in a relationship with, but not a total stranger. Each to their own though.

I don't really get an online service for this but I know several co-parenting non-romantic couples. Including our sperm donor (with his baby mama not referring to his donor relationship with us) and our future "nanny" (planning on babies with a friend of hers) who I will also consider a co-parent during the time that she will live with us and help care for our baby. But these are all queer couples so we live in a different world.

Nope, way too much risk. If you want a child but do not have a significant other, find a donor & raise the child solo. Raising it with a stranger is just so wrong to me.

I think its a terrible idea. Why bring a child into a divorced-style life if you don't have to? Plus, I think its a super bad idea that it lets you upload your official documents. Its just asking for someone to rip you off...

I think its crazy. How well do you really know that person? much less their family, history, the good, the bad and the ugly?? I just wouldn't do it, and I would have a hard time supporting it if someone close to me (i.e. one of my family members) were to be seriously interested in this concept.

Have any of you heard of this? I saw a news story on it last night. It is similar to a dating website, except people are looking for someone to have a baby with, without romantic involvement... a co-parent.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPuOFzg80WY

This seems like there would be so many risks involved and so many potential legal battles. I think it would take just the right kind of people to make this work. It would definitely not be for me... but then again, I've never been in the position of wanting children, but not having a partner. What are your thougths?
