@zippylef: so I was inspired by your post and sent pics in to an agency this past week. We got called in for an interview on Tuesday and today I got word LO was picked up on an exclusive contract. The agency is legit and pretty selective so I'm excited. I wouldn't do pageants and we will do it as long as it is fun for all of us. Anyway, thanks for the motivation! I thought I messaged earlier, maybe in another thread, your babe is such a cutie!

that's cool! yeah, i'd do modeling for lil' CB for stuff like that. or gapkids or crewcuts, but only if he enjoyed it. he doesn't mind my taking pictures of him, so i think he'd have fun!

We model for Ergo baby, but it's a family affair. The kids go into baby wearing while we wander around with them. We wouldn't do it if the kids had to "work".

I like the type of modeling that C does too! That top picture is AMAZING! She is such a beautiful baby.

I wouldn't put LO in paegants, and I probably wouldn't have her be a model either.

She is going to be in a retail catalogue next year modeling baby clothes, but that is only because we know a gal who is one of the stylists and she needed a cute baby. It's probably a one time thing!

Cute!!

I saw someone who did that on Etsy - she traded modeling/photos for the items. I thought of doing that :)

I wouldn't mind if my child got into modeling as long as I/they didn't go too overboard with it. I always wanted to be a model as a teen and in pageants when I was younger and my mom wouldn't let me. I guess I see why but I was really disappointed she never gave me a chance.

When we lived out by LA when DS1 was a baby we were constantly told we should try to get him an agent. I just brushed it off until I encountered a woman who told us that her kids do it, nd by the age of 7 her daughter had enough money to pay for college! I discussed it with DH and we decided to send in some pictures to an agency that I heavily researched.

DS1 was actually asked to join the agency and we went on three castings, and got a booking with a major infant line retailer. The shoot and castings were super easy and really nothing different than what I do at home with my constant picture taking. The thing I hated were the other parents we encountered. At the booking one family kept on bragging about all the jobs their son had been on and would badger us about what we had done with DS1. I was so turned off by that experience that I decided to drop the agency.

We have moved to FL now and I don't regret getting into modeling because it gave us a tiny bit of money for DS1's college fund, and it was something really unique to put in his baby book. I haven't thought any more about it, but we were recently stopped by a recruiter, and they've been contacting me to get him in their agency. If I hadn't have met such unsavory people before, I probably would continue doing it do we could save up more money for college. But as previous people have said, kids just need to be kids, and I want my kids to play and learn, not to work.

Modeling like you are doing-- on your own time, at home, no chance of rejection, I would do. But I wouldn't want to do anything to the point where they knew they were being rejected, like PrincessBaby said.
My sister brought my nephew to an open call and they had a call back but nothing came of it, and she was actually kind of insulted, so decided it would be better to not do it again. My nephew had no clue but my sister did NOT like someone telling her that someone else was cuter than her baby!

Modeling for cute headgear, I'd totally do! But no pageants for her. I have a friend with a daughter that's part of a large agency that does shoots for TCP and H&M. From her pictures, it seems like fun! Just a bunch of kids hanging out. If it is like this, I wouldn't mind, it might even be a good way for DD to interact with other kids, a big plus is if they speak English!

I *think* I would be ok with the level you're doing with C but I'm not sure. I'm just incredibly paranoid.

But def no on pageants of any kind.

Someone did a guest post a while back on children modeling where they tried it out. Would be fun to try it out for like H&M, United Colors of Benetton or Zara. But nothing full term, kids need to just be kids.

People keep telling us to send pictures of M because she has a unique face. Hm not so sure about that.

C is so adorable!!!! I would totally do the same thing with Harper if the situation ever presented itself - just to get the free loot;)

She would have to ask me to do pageants or regular modeling.

When I was younger, my mom liked to make us do pageants. They're fun if you win stuff, but when you don't win anything, it's earth-shattering to a child. I remember that awful feeling of watching other girls get crowns and trophies and me not really getting anything. It was so devastating! It would break my heart to put my daughter through that heartbreak that I've felt firsthand! It's so terrible to by "judged" and get deemed not pretty or special enough.

Not to mention that I remember being older at pageants, like junior high, and seeing the younger girls get scolded or yelled at by their parents for not doing what they were supposed to on stage, and once I even saw a little girl get spanked because of it. It just turned me off altogether from pageants and I swore I'd never put my child through that torture. But if she asked me, I would let her try it and see how she felt about it.

@artbee: Yep, I get to keep everything! Sometimes I do pay for the items (very discounted) but sometimes I get them free!

@Grace: It is very low key, for sure. They send me stuff and I snap pictures of her!

I don't think I have any issues with the "natural" pageants. I think I would allow C to do one if she came and asked to do it.

Nope. I'm not a fan of it and never had any interest in it as a child or adult. As much as I (like most parents, I'm sure) think my child is the most beautiful child in the world) I don't think I would put her through modeling or pageants.

Those are adorable! Do you get to keep the headbands? I would totally do that!

For the most part DH isn't a fan of modeling and pageants, and I don't have much of an opinion on it so I don't fight it either way. I see a lot of facebook contests where my friends will try to get their baby to win something, and I don't try to do that because I feel like it's just a popularity contest and I don't want to beg my friends to vote for my LO every day.

Would you ever enroll your infant/child into modeling or pageants? Why or why not?

C and I dabble in a little bit of modeling. I have her enrolled in a modeling service on facebook and she models items for WAHM boutiques. I don't know that we would ever really take it further. They send us things like bows, headbands, tutus, shoes, etc and I take pictures of her wearing them and send them back. She wears her own clothes and I feel like it gives me incentive to take tons of pictures of her. It also gives me a chance to practice my editing skills. Plus, then we have lots of fun stuff! I've gotten some really nice items from it.
