@mrs. lion, that's why i don't drink coffee from work. The pots never get clean and once there was a roach found in one. Now i won't touch it to save my life.

Haha thanks everyone! I will try the vinegar! I hate to throw it away if that will do it....i hadnt heard of cleaning it that way before and being pregnant it was freaking me out a little ;)

@Reese: i had this happen to me with a friends keurig. A bug came out in my coffee and we discovered it was infested. I cant look at those coffee pots the same anymore. She threw hers away too. In the case of bugs, no question haha.

This is like a weekly occurrence at our house! My husband is the only one who drinks coffee so it happens after he drinks it on the weekends. I agree with other posters who say vinegar.

Since it's cheap I would throw it out because I have such a mold phobia. But, if you want to salvage it, cleaning with water and a small amount of bleach should kill the mold (if there's any anywhere else). Then, I would do a second cleaning with vinegar.

If it was a cheapie I would throw it out. When we moved I found two bugs in ours. I ran vinegar and hot water through it but when I made coffee I couldn't get the image of my coffee being filtered through dead bug bodies out of my head *shudder*

I love coffee too much for it to be tainted.

I would probably be practical and clean it super good. If there was any funny taste left, then I'd toss it.

Get a big bucket or fill the sink with a mild bleach solution (1 glug of bleach to a sink of water should be fine) and just let the coffeemaker soak in it overnight. In the morning, rinse it off, run it through the dishwasher, and then run vinegar water through the machine itself a few times. We get mold in our commuter mugs and stuff and I always soak them overnight in bleach water and then scrub them clean to disinfect them. Works fine.

I second what people have said above. Just run a few cycles with hot water and vinegar. No need to throw out a working coffee maker!

I'd just clean it unless I was in the market for a new machine anyway.

I'd do what @aegie suggested and also possibly boil any parts that can be (the pot and any other removable bits. Obviously nothing with electronic stuff in it).

my husband is a specialist on mold and environmental testing. He says you should be fine to use the vinegar and run it with just hot water.

This is so gross....but i want to see if I am overreacting haha

So I haven't wanted coffee since getting pregnant. No severe aversion, but it is a million degrees here and hot coffee...bleh.

I was cleaning yesterday and discovered that the last time I used the coffee pot I didn't throw away the filter/grounds. 2 months ago. Ewwwwww.

I ran the removable pieces and ran them through the dishwasher, and I wiped out the inside parts I could reach, but I'm not sure if I should just throw the whole thing away. It's a cheap coffee pot (like $20). It feels crazy to throw it out, but I feel like there must be secret mold hiding in there and i have no idea how to get it clean.

Thoughts??
