@blackbird: yup--mine were smaller than that, but looked similar after the doctor burned them off (with some kind of chemical she painted on--maybe the same thing?). It did hurt, each little dot she pained burned like fire for a couple of seconds, but then nothing. And it didn't hurt at all while it was healing, it just looked kinda bad.

My kids got them this summer. My older daughters went away on its own but my younger daughters kept going. we put compound w gel on them and it worked. It only took once and I didn't put it on the ones that had spread to her belly but they still went away. Hers looked a lot like blackbirds pics. The gel hurt her a lot for a couple min till it dried then it didn't seem to bother her. I put it on when she was in her car seat.

@LuLu Mom: E had terrible molluscum earlier this year. We had it treated with cantharidin by our dermatologist. She needed 3 treatments, I think? And they were pretty terrible--they caused huge blisters at the back of her leg. The first one was something like 18 bumps....then 7....then 4....and we haven't had any since. So it was worth it, but I hated that she was in such obvious pain. Hers were on the back of her knee and I wrapped them in bandages for awhile. We gave her Advil and she just sat on the couch that next day and didn't move it a lot. She didn't even notice the second or third treatments. And we didn't give her a bath for a few days. I used Dermaplast on it when i exposed it to air. She was really good about letting me put the big bandages on her (i wrapped it around, so it stayed on) and put pants on, then she forgot about it until she saw it.

I was really concerned that she would transmit them to T as a newborn or that they would spread beyond her leg. Once they started creeping to her inner thigh on her other leg, I was adamant it be stopped. She had had the bumps for about 8 months and they were multiplying and getting worse, not better. Our derm also felt that since it was getting worse, it would keep getting worse and get harder to treat.

so anyways, this is what it did to her leg and since she's so young, it barely left a mark, and it'll go away. I don't even notice it's there unless i go actively looking. And we haven't had a SINGLE bump come back.

I got it at the gym in college. I was horrified and refused to wait... my primary doc burned them off before they spread. One office visit, then they were stabbed for a week and then 100% gone.

No advice on the skin but my dad's gymnastics class at 2-3 didn't even require leotards, you could do shorts/tights. Most did a leotard with shorts.

A few years back I picked it from one of my students. The cream never worked, and my doctor had to poke each one with a needle to remove the inside stuff. Then it was gone.

DS had them. At first we took the wait and see if they'll go away approach, and after 6ish months they hadn't, but I asked he doctor if there was anything else we could do because I was about to have his little sister and I didn't want him to give it to her. She gave us a cream that they use for clearing up herpes and it worked. I can't remember the name of it

Anyone else's child battle molliscum? My 3 year old has had these bumps for almost a year. We worked with our pediatrician for 6 months and then she referred us to a dermatologist who gave us some cream that irritates the skin (without hurting her) so her body knows to attack the rash. It's gotten so much better but is not gone. She really wants to start gymnastics (beginning of year) but I've been waiting until they are clear. I think we might just have to do short leotards because they are pesky things!
