And that is why I don't like the PISA and I love the freestyle ..... no mini valves / membranes! Argh!

I agree with everyone - don't beat yourself up! If the milk were contaminated, I think your baby would have been throwing up by now. If he's fine, then it probably should be fine!

Not to worry! The nurse at the hospital told me not to be nuts about sterilizing pump parts because, as she said, "your breasts aren't sterile". :) I know we wash because bacteria multiply when milk sits around, but still - don't worry!

Ugh, I just feel so awful! I have been so, so careful since he was little to make sure everything is clean (bottled water, extra hot cycle in the dishwasher!) and the one thing that I notice is my own fault for being lazy about cleaning the tiny pump parts!

Thanks, ladies, for your amazing support and reassurance. I just wonder for how long my LO has been drinking milk that may have had traces of this buildup in it. The milk always smelled fine and I am just angry with myself.

 you all

We all do stuff like this, so don't beat yourself up! If your LO doesn't seem affected by it, I think you're okay! That milky buildup is probably dried and stuck to your pump parts and isn't even being passed into the milk you're pumping! Try not to worry!! <3

Awww - don't beat yourself up so bad. If your LO hasn't had any issues, then I would think that he's just fine. You would be able to tell if the milk was bad by smelling it. If he's been acting the same, I wouldn't worry about it, and I'm sure you have no caused any irreparable damage :-)

LO is almost 11 months old and I am only pumping about 1x per day at work now as he is taking much less milk with his babysitter. Last week, I noticed that the suction on my PISA seemed to be much weaker and I called Medela for some trouble shooting. I have been using my manual pump in the meantime.

While looking at my pump, I noticed that the valves had a lot of milky buildup on them (have not used them and therefore washed them since last week before the electric pump stopped working well). While I wash the flanges and parts every night, I am guilty of not always separating the valves and membranes but have never noticed this problem before.

I am extremely concerned now that this buildup has been accumulating and that I have been feeding LO milk with bacteria in it for a long time. He has never had any issues (stomach, that is), but I am really scared now that I have done something irreparable.

If LO has not been sick from this yet, should I be worried? I cannot believe I was so careless to not clean more carefully, and now I am just so, so scared.
