@mrs. bells & mrs. jacks: thank you! I've only been around EBF moms who are SAHM or part-time and so it's really discouraging when they use their judgmental tones "you're giving your baby FORMULA?!" so this has made me feel better for sure. Thank you. THANK. YOU.

the mother's milk tea doesn't taste bad at all! just like normal tea. i didn't mind drinking it. i really found the combination of pumping frequently + supplements to work best. i wasn't able to increase my supply significantly just doing one or the other.

good luck!

@mrs. bee: Thank you! 2 bottles is doable. I think we'll continue to stretch it out and mix the formula/bm since he's getting the volume. I actually have the mother's milk tea on my grocery list for today and am going to give it a shot. I heard it tastes pretty icky though...but if it works, it's worth it! So is the maple syrup smelling sweat I've got going on from the fenugreek...haha

our pediatrician said that babies still get most of the benefits with 2 bottles of breastmilk a day.

i was able to pump about 2-2.5 oz in the beginning too, but i worked really hard to increase my supply with lots of pumping, and taking more milk plus + fenugreek + mother's milk tea.

if you can't produce enough milk to ebf, try to make your goal 2 bottles! it doesn't have to be all or nothing. :)

So I know the BEST thing for babies is EBF, I know that...but I had supply issues from day 1 and we've been supplementing one bottle of formula (we just make it a midnight feeding so DH can help me get more sleep) since week 2 because he wasn't gaining. Today he's 6 weeks old and my milk has started to kind of taper off a little, last week I started taking fenugreek but it hasn't changed things much for me. I drink an INSANE amount of water, I eat right, he has a perfect latch, things are fine in every aspect, I just don't produce much milk.

Last week when we went out of town we gave him a couple of bottles (we weren't anywhere I could BF, it takes him about 40 min each session) of mixed formula and breast milk. He took that really well and I just pumped. When I pump I only get between 1.5-2.5oz but I think that's all he gets when he eats from my breast as well, when we go to the LC she weighs him before and after and he's never eaten more than 2oz when there.

With all of that being said, I go back to work on Monday (gag me...let's not get me started on that sob story again...) and I know I don't have enough milk for him to JUST have bm, but can someone please tell me what amount of bm/day gives the LO the benefits? One feedings worth, two, three...or is it all or nothing? I still want to nurse at least once or twice in the morning/evenings after I go back to work, but obviously won't be able to during the day. I'm really worried about my supply and I don't want to jip my kiddo out on the health benefits of BM.

Help :(
