My parents were going to come and watch DD while I was having #2; however it would take them about 5 hours to get to our house. Our plan was to have DD go to daycare each day. If I went into labor at a time that would result in my parents not getting here before daycare closed (or overnight) we'd call some very good friends who would pick her up from daycare and then take her to our house where they would stay until my parents arrived (they were also letting our dog out). In the end, I was induced very early on a Sunday morning so they came on Saturday afternoon and stayed until Wednesday.

@Mrs. Bee: my water broke at 37 weeks with DS and my hospital bag was only partially packed so I want to be more pro-active this time especially because I have DS to worry about.

Sounds like regardless everything worked out if your plans panned out or were changed.

I had a scheduled csection with #2, so we had a plan. DS stayed with my mom the night before and day off my csection. He then was handed off to the IL's and stayed with them that night. My husband picked him up the 2nd night and stayed with him at our house and my mom took him again the last day. He then stayed with my mom overnight the first night we were home with DD

We didn't have a plan since Olive came 5 weeks early. What ended up happening was our occasional babysitter picked Charlie up from the hospital and spent the night with him and dropped him off at daycare. My mom got on a plane as soon as I was in labor and arrived the next morning and she stayed with Charlie.

If Olive had come on time, we probably would have had Charlie stay with one of our close friends since my mom would have arrived the next day.

I actually had the opposite thought -- that LO would do better at home in familiar surroundings. We had a neighbor come watch him for the day and overnight, and he did great. She's a friend so he was familiar with her. He did great!

Side note: She was actually our back-up. My ILs came but left before I had the baby (long story).

Thanks ladies!!

I am very lucky to have my in-laws super close and they are on the way to the hospital. I was thinking of taking DS to their house on the way to the hospital regardless the time of day. I feel like he will adjust better with mom and dad gone if he's not at home. The in-laws babysit pretty often so he's very used to them.
I also plan on having a suit case ready to go for him too. I've also thought about letting them have a few overnight trips leading up to delivery as well.

Humm... Am I thinking about this too much?! :silly:

We have no family nearby and had only been living here about a year when LO2 was born. I made a list of people who said they could take our son, I knew 3 of them and had 2 standby babysitters that I hadn't actually met, but were recommended by other moms. I ended up getting through to the second person on our list when my water broke and she was amazing, her son is about 6 months younger than mine, but they play together well, he spent one night with them and everything went better than expected and my son was well behaved and totally fine with the arrangements.

We were lucky with the timing, my water broke around noon on a Saturday so everyone was home and off work. I was worried about what would happen if it were the middle of the night or while my son was at daycare.

do you have family nearby?

we had my in-laws watch DD when i went into labor. the plans were the same day or night, but we had an advantage because my in-laws live with us. we decided not to have DD come to the hospital when DS was born, and waited until we brought him home for their first introduction. i wouldn't have done anything differently and was happy with my choice.

When my I had my second, I had to be induced early in the morning so my parents came over to my house until DS woke up. He spent the night at their house for the two nights we stayed at the hospital though. He had stayed at my parents house before so it wasn't unfamiliar. My parents bought him a fireman playhouse and they built it together so he was pretty distracted while he was away from DH and I.

If I go into labor at night this time, my parents will sleep at my house and I'm sure they'll bring both kids to their house for the following nights. We'll have back packs ready to go for them when the time comes.

What was your plan for #1 when you went into labor with #2 or #3?

Did you have different plans if it were day or night?

Do your night plans have #1 staying home and someone coming to your house or did you wake and take him/her to someone else's house?

Did what you do work or do you wish you would have planned it differently?

I think I know what I want to do I'm just unsure if it's the best choice so I'd love to hear from your personal experiences.
