@BabyBoecksMom: thanks...

@SAHM0811: a big bold sticker would have been nice!! What a good idea... But I doubt they listen to suggestions.... Just a bummer because that seems to be too important of an information to put in small print on the side...

Don't blame yourself! I think the pharmacy has a responsibility to do patient teaching before dispensing medication. I know a lot of pharmacists don't do this thoroughly. They are also inconsistent with label instructions and getting the information across in written format. I know some places are digilent about labeling meds with a big, bright sticker that says to refrigerate it. Other places just don't have that system in place for whatever reason.

@irene: I did the same thing. Some antibiotics we've used say not to refrigerate it and some do. I left one out for 3 days once before I realized it needed to be in the fridge. It definitely needs to say it in big bold letters to make sure it's not missed!

Hope your LO feels better really soon

@irene: awwww. Even though the pharmacist was a jerk I'm glad you were able to get the antibiotics tonight!! I'm sure it will start clearing up overnight now with the medicine and sleep.

@mrs. wagon: Hugs :(

I just called in and the nurse managed to get the prescription in and I was able to pick it up before the pharmacist close. I said to the pharmacist "thanks for being able to fill this so quickly for me I feel so bad (about the error)" and he didn't say anything, just plain cold clicking-on-the-register.

I hope LO's ear infection will be cleared up after this mishap. Hopefully the bacteria will die off and won't become resilient. I feel really really bad.

Oh no :( I did something similar... Wagon Jr. had never had an ear infection before so when he was around 2 years old, he had a fever that wasn't going away after several days. I just gave him ibuprofen and finally took him to the doctor around day 5 or 6.. by then, the ear infection was so bad we had to give him really strong antibiotics to clear it up. I felt so bad. I should have taken him sooner!!

I have had committed a series of mommy errors and this is by far one of the worst :(

So LO (13 months) has an ear infection that didn't clear up after a first administration of antibiotics 2 weeks ago. Dr gave us a second /different one. Today is the 2nd day of the 10-day course. When I was getting the dose I realized the bottle says it needs to be refrigerated.

I did not do that for the past 2 days.

Frantic, I called the pharmacist and they said it does compromise the effectiveness of the drug and I should call in for a new prescription. So I did (which I won't be able to get it until tomorrow morning).

I can not stop blaming myself what a horrible mother I am. How could I miss that? How could I? And I wonder if that was the reason why his infection didn't clear up in the first place because the previous prescription might need to be refrigerated too (I don't know now because I threw away the bottle). Then of course, I am so angry how come it doesn't write our clearly on the bottle while it was in small print on the side? Both the doctor and the pharmacist never said anything about refrigerating the meds. OK. I know. It is my fault at the end.

What is one of your mommy-error that you can not forgive yourself / feel that you need a confession?
