Saturday I told my little girl I wouldn't lay with her for bedtime (don't want to start a habit) but I said for nap the next day we could. Of course nap time on Sunday came around and she remembered. Unfortunately I had to nurse the baby at that time but I promised I would come in later. Instead of consoling him, I just laid down next to him and he quickly became quiet. We both fell back to sleep. I actually love lying in bed with her (usually for 15-30 min) and would stay until she fell asleep if it didn't have any consequences (I.e., waking up in the MOTN because I'm no longer there).
