@tororojo: Thanks!

So we visited the MDO & I liked it - maybe not LOVED it, but liked it a lot. Then I talked to my mom again & she doesn't think she can make up the rest of our childcare needs until an additional day opens up, or if one never does. I don't want to end up having to switch a few months down the road, so I am back on the hunt for a MDO that offers 3 days a week. Wish me luck!

I would totally go for it! I put DD in MDO one day a week starting at 6 months old, and she has loved it. She's 15 months now. During DH's busy season at work (i.e. right now) she goes 2 days a week, but she was doing just fine with only 1 and I'll switch back to that in a few weeks. She hates going to the nursery at our church (not the same one as the MDO program) on Sundays..I think b/c it's chaotic with kids coming and going, and a different teacher every week. MDO is much more calm, same group of kids and usually the same teacher. She has never napped well there but that makes for better home naps so I'm okay with it. I would give it a shot! It'll be great for your LO to get to play with other kids and fun toys that you don't have to listen to and I bet she'll have a great time!

@daniellemybelle: I also kinda figure if naps are messed up one day a week, LO will be ok. He can always make up for at home. I hope it all goes well for you guys!

@Seattlemom: That's definitely a concern of mine! Since she's coming home for her afternoon nap though, I figure if they can even just get her to take a 30-min cat nap, that will get through if it's just once or twice a week.

@Lindsay05: Thanks! I really need the childcare so I can work but I think the benefit of her getting social interaction is awesome, too!

@daniellemybelle: yeah, see if there is anyway she can visit a few times it might really help. Naps have been a little hard for my LO going to daycare only once per week. I think its because he is just so used to his home routine with white noise and sleeping in a dark room, etc. He doesn't struggle to fall asleep at daycare (from what I'm told) but he does take much shorter naps. I did bring in a sleep sheep and they finally make a dark area for him to sleep (all the other kids sleep on mats pretty much in the broad daylight).

These decision are so hard! I am recently in the same boat with my 2 yo and 5 month old. However, that one day without them and them being able to interact with other kids will be REALLY important (for me anyways!). Good luck!

@coacheswife123: That sounds really nice!

@Seattlemom: I'm not sure if that will be disruptive, especially since they are starting the school year soon so it will be new for most of the kids. But I may see if they would let me bring her after her morning nap to play the first day. I think napping there will be the hardest part for her, especially because she will only be doing it once a week.

@mrs. eagle: That's so great that she does so well. And nice that she takes a nap a little later in the day. LO's morning nap is currently at about 9am which may make going to MDO from 9-2:30 a little challenging. Will your LO move classes when she turns 12 months or does her class "age" with her?

My dd is in the 6-12mth class right now. She's been going since she turned 6mths on and off - they had to close for bad weather. I love how flexible they are with her schedule. They will feed her and have her nap during her regular times. She is in mdo from 9:30-2:30pm and has been able to nap consistently between 10-1 each time. They give me a detailed list of how her stay went and will often tell me if she was still hungry after she had her lunch..etc. I think it has helped a lot with her developmental skills, she loves being dropped off and it's always fun picking her up at the end of the day and seeing her play with her friends. She does better at mdo than our church nursery - she ALWAYS ends up riding on a huge red stroller with other crying babies. :/

My LO goes to a home daycare one day per week while I work. He started at 4 months but did get used to it very quickly. I realize the transition may be a little harder for an older baby, so could you and LO visit the center a few days in a row for an hour or two so she gets comfortable there before you drop her off for the day? And maybe your first drop off day could be a half day?

@daniellemybelle: they follow their own schedule for the most part but I know some parents have LOs who nap earlier. They usually just let them nap in a room that is quieter or has an earlier nap schedule! That's what I really love - the flexibility. I think they can be more flexible since it isn't 5x a week. They know the child has a routine outside of the two days they are at MDO and are fine with working around schedules !

LO is in the 12-18 mo room. They play in their room for about an hour in the morning then go to a big open room with large toys and combine with other classes for free play, puppet shows, crafts, etc. then back to their smaller room for lunch and nap.

@avivoca: Thanks! :) That's a great idea. Even if the teachers are not the same, I imagine they use the same facilities so she could get used to it that way.

@birdofafeather: It's SO hard to WAH with a LO! I really hate not giving her my undivided attention so I'm excited for her to have a place to go play. A lot of the programs start at 12 months which she will be too young for but this one and a few other start at 6 months.

@mrs. eagle: Oh, that's so good to know! Can you tell me more about your MDO? Do they follow your schedule in terms of naps/feedings or their own? What age group is her class?

@coacheswife123: Thanks! I'm so glad you love your MDO! Same questions as I asked Mrs. Eagle if you don't mind :)

@Cole: That's a great idea, too! I am totally going to do that.

It might be worth asking the teachers if they babysit, perhaps they could come over once or twice a week for a few weeks so they could develop a rapport. Either way I vote you go for it, you don't have much to lose so it's worth a shot. Good luck!

We do MDO 2x a week and loooooove it!!! It was absolutely the best case scenario for us. (We did an in home daycare first ). We don't attend the church (our church doesn't offer MDO program) but it's 3 blocks from my office !

He does fine twice a week. I bet she will do ok. It will become familiar quickly!

I'm starting one in the fall at 20 months with DD and I wish I could have done it earlier! They don't offer it for infants though. I think it will be a good time for her to ease into something. I WAH so this will give me a morning where I can get work done!

Yayyyyyyy! I'm so excited for you! Do the teachers for the MDO program work in the church nursery? Are you interested in attending the church? If so, leaving her in the nursery for church before she starts could acclimate her to her surroundings, and hopefully it wouldn't be so hard when she started the program.

We are buying a house! Yay! It's a bit of a drive from my mom though, who has been watching S while I WAH part time.. So I am looking for part-time affordable childcare 2 or 3 days a week & my mom will help out from there as needed. Some local churches have "Mommy's Day Out" - basically part-time daycare/preschool & it is typically pretty affordable compared to daycare, so that's what I'd like to go with.

The one that is closest to our new house & that I like the best based on recommendations from folks & my conversation with them on the phone only has one day a week available right now. I can go on the wait list for additional days but there's no telling when they would open up.

I am going to visit Thursday & if I like it, I might sign LO up for that one day & hope another opens. I am a little concerned that at 10 months (how old she'll be when they start this fall) she will not do awesome only going once a week - that she will not acclimate to her teachers & classmates as well as if she was going 2 or 3 days. She is pretty adaptable, social & so far has little separation anxiety, but she also has been home with me or my mom almost exclusively, and she is also not afraid to express when she's unhappy!

Thoughts on giving this a shot? My mom says if I love it we should go for it rather than settling for another program just because it has 2/3 day availability now. I should mention that I have been underwhelmed with my phone conversations with most of the other options, and they are not as geographically convenient.
