Don't have a second yet, but this is the backpack we currently use and as long as it stays in one piece (has so far in 20 months) we'll continue to use it.
http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/brands/babygear/products/66882

I love all the pockets because they really do what they are meant to do, and they help keep me organized.

We had tried a messenger style bag at first too, but it was not as easy to keep organized (wasn't meant to be a diaper bag) and it was too bulky at my side.

I have been using the same skiphop one but I don't really love it. A backpack style would be a good idea because I've been wearing number two a lot.

I always had a fold up changing pad as well. I'm a bit conscious of where I change LO, and especially when we're outdoors somewhere, I don't want to lay him directly in the grass. The changing pad is a must for me with a few diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes.

Mine are 15 months apart, and I was able to use the same diaper bag as when I only had 1. I just packed lots of diapers, wipes, change of clothes for both kids. Snack for the older one, bottles and formula for the younger one. Burp cloths, bibs.

My kiddos are 27 and 5 months old. I've really downsized and use a medium one shoulder backpack. I carry about 4 diapers, travel size wipes, change pad, hand sanitizer, a receiving blanket, my nursing cover, sleeper or outfit for L, extra shirt for J, a book, a car of some sort, a straw cup of water and a sack (usually an orange or grapes and pretzels) for J and my clutch with my wallet/phone/key ect. I have room to spare in case I want to add more for longer outings but find it a great size.

LO #2 is 8 week old and LO #1 is 17 months so very similar to yours in age. I decided I really overpacked for #1 and have gotten by with the same diaper bag with no problem this time around.
If we are just running out quick, i actually just throw a couple of diapers/wipes, a onesie/romper and a+a blanket in my purse. If we are going to be out for a little longer I just add a snack/bottle and maybe a burp cloth.
Like @beaker, I try to keep a bag in my truck with additional items and when winter comes will for sure add pjs, blanket, etc after the crazy weather we had last year in the South!

This Perry Mackin Zoey bag is the one that I have been using and it is great!!

we had our second when our first was 16 months too! :)

for the first few months we needed to pack an extra lunch bag for extra food, bottles, ice packs, but I just ended up packing less stuff in general. we used the same messenger style diaper bag. I think the big difference was that I stopped packing extra clothes for the most part, I never brought toys along anymore, and only one a+a blanket and no burp cloths. we just kinda got by with what we had! :)

I have a messenger bag, and I pack 4 diapers, a thing of wipes, pouches, and a chance of clothes (one per kid). When they were small, I had my nursing cover, too. That's it!

@emg86: I got a basic jansport which I use sometimes, or just an oversized tote style. My two are 2y apart and the little one was in the hospital for so long he was 5m old before I was out and about with them. These days I just take add a couple of diapers and snacks for DS1 to DS2's stuff. In the beginning, to satisfy my overpacking tendencies, I'd keep a duffel in the car with extra/emergency stuff (extra changes of clothes, milk in a cooler in case we were out longer than expected, etc)

So baby #2 is arriving soon and my daughter will be 16ish months and I'm starting to think about packing a bag for two. I plan to use a backpack style bag (Ju Ju Be BFF or Be Right Back) so that I have both hands free & can baby wear if I need to. What bags do you ladies like to use? Any packing tips? I think I over packed when my daughter was a newborn but hope to become much more minimal this time around.
