It was really important that DD be the first person (besides my husband and I) to meet the new baby. I had DS at 9:00 pm, so my husband brought her to the hospital the next morning and we had a few hours as a new family of four. DS1 was 2.5 when DS2 was born (in January). He stayed with us the whole time except for pushing. Having him there while I was in labor kept me calm because I didn't want to scare him. He was with my mom while I pushed and met his brother very quickly. He flipped out in a totally good way, he could not have grinned any bigger. He was soooooooo happy to see that we had a baby. He was 26 months at the time. Of course, he is my extremely social child with no separation anxiety, so it wasn't a big deal when they took him to leave for the night. She was about 23 months old. I waited until all of the needles, IVs etc were out of me, because I didn't want to scare her.
