so glad I'm not alone in my worries - AND that seasoned moms have been there and survived :) makes me feel like it'll be doable!

Olivia is a great sleeper NOW, but her first year SUCKED. so I'm really, really, really hoping this baby is a better sleeper.

I was worried about --

1) jealousy - didn't happen
2) feeling stretched thin - not as bad as I imagined
3) me never getting to nap again with their two schedules - surprisingly, i got them on the same schedule pretty quickly.
4) baby waking up toddler in the MOTN or vice versa and dealing with multiple wakeups multiple times a night - didn't happen.
5) having another really hard baby - didn't happen.
6) solo parenting and double bedtimes - scary initially, but adjusted quickly and figured out a system that worked for us. i didn't have to solo parent too often when the kids were little little though, and now that they're both toddlers it feels like no big deal.

I was worried about loving my second as much as my first.
I can't explain it, but it happens and it's instant. My heart exploded. I love my kids equally and unconditionally and it's incredible. The second I saw Charlotte, my fear of love disappeared.

I was worried about meeting both of their needs at the same time.
This one is a bit trickier. When Chloe was my only child, especially as a newborn, I would run the second I heard her cry. Now I know that Charlotte won't be hurt if she cries for a few moments, and I know she's safe in her crib/rockn play. I have to assess which kids needs are more immediate -- so this means I might tell Chloe, "hang on! Let's finish feeding Charlotte then I'll refill your snack!" or I'll say "Hang on Charlie! I'm helping big sis go to the bathroom!" and I always say it outloud, so my big kid knows how important she is. I don't want her to think she's the only one who has to wait.

I was worried about sleep and exhaustion
For the most part, we got lucky with a great sleeper. Chloe slept in 45 minute increments then miraculously started sleeping through the night at six weeks, which went to hell when she was four months old. She's three and is still a terrible sleeper, so we were due for a kid who liked to sleep! Charlie sleept in 4 hour chunks as a newborn and now she gives us 6-8 hours at a night. If we've had a rough night, it can mean a really rough day because Chloe doesn't nap and I *dont* get a chance to rest during the day time. Charlotte is also moving up her bedtime (used to be 10, now it's more like 8:30 sometimes!) so I go to bed once both kids are asleep, knowing I'll be up with the baby earlier, so I don't get as much alone time as I did before.

@sorrycharlie: You are reading my mind, and your fears are the same as mine! We have been dealing with tantrums and all of a sudden she's all about laying next to mommy on the couch. Well there isn't a lot of room with this growing belly and she gets soo mad saying "baby sister does it" well baby sister is still inside mommy....this scares me a lot.

@lilyann: My boys are also 20 months apart! It's amazing to see them starting to play together. I also think it's crazy how they genuinely love each other at such a young age.

@Mamasig: Completely agree!!

I never imagined my toddler would love the baby so much! He was only 20 months when the baby was born but he loves him more each day. They secretly play peek a boo in the back seat of the car and my heart just explodes when I see them in the rearview. Carter will do anything to make his little brother smile/laugh!

My main fear was splitting my time between the two and I was sooo attached to DS1 that I was scared the baby would ruin the bond we had. Pretty much the opposite happened! I couldn't imagine our family without DS2 now and he is only 5 months old! Not going to lie, when the toddler is having a meltdown, all I want is snuggles from DS2! LOL :silly:

DH is mostly worried about getting them both into carseats, ha! I reminded him that numero dos will be in an infant carrier, and he's actually excited about that. So much easier!!

DH and I tag team pretty well, but I (selfishly) worry mostly about us not having any time to ourselves for the next several months. We have a pretty sweet routine right now where E goes to bed at 7:30 pm every night. This is going to totally throw us back on our heads again.

@littlejoy: It is totally true! My second is 6 months old and my heart literally feels it could burst from the love for these two boys. Honestly, seeing their relationship and feeling the love I have for them makes me want more kids!

My fears were not being able to do the things I have always done with my first born and him feeling neglected. And also not being able to spend the same quality time with my newborn as I did with my first. I was also very worried about recovering from a c-section with two under 2! What caught me off guard was the aggression my normally very sweet and gentle 22 month old showed towards me and the baby. We rocked his world and turned it upside down. I was very surprised by the intensity of the guilt I felt. But it does get better and those days are behind us now. It has a way of working itself out.

I should add that it wasn't that my first didn't like my second. He just couldn't find a way to control his energy around her and with us being so worried about the baby, it seemed like all we were saying was no to him. It was like he just didn't know how to deal with his emotions. Once he got more used to her, he was calmer and much more gentle.

The love for both is unimaginable. It's amazing how your heart is full with just one and yet it has room to love another with just as much love.

My biggest worry was that DS1 would be jealous of his little brother and be ugly/mean/violent towards him. That did not happen at all! From the moment he met him, DS1 gave him a kiss and has been wonderful towards him.

I also worried about dividing my time and attention. That was hard in the beginning and I'd often get upset (likely the hormones too). But we adjusted and it's going great now.

I also understand about the solo parenting. That is hard and draining. But eventually you find your groove.

I don't have a 2nd yet, but that's my biggest hesitation: wondering where I could possibly find enough love for another. Is it truly possible? I've heard that "love grows", and I think I'll trust that.

Following.

I worried at first about playing favorites - hard to imagine loving another as much as my first! However, with her crazy two-year-old tantrums and behavior lately, I find myself wondering if I'll prefer a sleepy newborn :silly:

I mainly solo parent, so I'm nervous for a 2 year old and a newborn!

What were you worried about? In hindsight, do you think you should've worried about something different?
