@Mrs. High Heels: Yea, it's crazy! The doctor asked us at 12m to keep a list and I was shocked when I added them up. Granted, most other people wouldn't know what he's saying, but we do, and the doc said that's what counts! He was an early talker though - his first words were before he was crawling. I was, and still am, shocked that it doesn't help with tantrums.

@Mamaof2: @ValentineMommy: Wow, ok maybe not!
@ValentineMommy: 100 words?! That's amazing! DS maybe has 16-18 words right now.

@Mrs. High Heels: I was hoping to avoid the whole stage myself (yea, I know, haha) because at 18m DS says well over 100 words. The doctor is really impressed with his verbal skills and the dude still goes completely nuclear during a tantrum! It's so frustrating! :crying: I really thought the communication skills would help, but it didn't for us.

@Mrs. High Heels: My DS was very verbal early on and DD was delayed and DS still had worse tantrums than his sister :bummed:

@Freckles: I think my kids are easy/hard in different ways. My girl is definitely more dramatic/emotional whereas my son is very "whatevers!" about a lot of things... but his tantrums are definitely more intense when he doesn't get what he wants whereas my daughter just whines and cries, but in a softer way. She's also quick to apologize and admit when she does something wrong. DS is still too young to do that stuff so we'll see what he's like as he gets older...

I think part of the reason why DS's tantrums might be "worse" than DD's was at his age is because he doesn't have as many words to communicate yet. DD was very verbal early on so she was always able to get her point across.

@Freckles: my sister always tells me that girls are easy when young and hard when they are older and boys are the opposite hard when young but easier when they get older (and by older I mean tweens/teenagers)

so far its been true for my kids - the young part

obviously there a gazillion other factors playing a role here too!

My 18m old son, who was the sweetest child on earth up until a few weeks ago, now slaps me when he's angry. And then laughs in my face.

I'm going to say boy tantrums SUCK. :bummed:

This thread has me terrified! I have a 2 year old daughter and am expecting baby #2 who is a boy. I totally thought boy tantrums would be easier since my daughter is super dramatic and crazy.

DD threw some really bad ones during the weaning process :( but don't really remember her being tantrumy either..

Oh yes - boy tantrums are much worse, in our experience! J is going to be one wild toddler... we already don't plan on eating out for the next couple years - not only is he more physical, he's super loud too. N has never had one of those crazy fling yourself on the floor type tantrums, and J has already had several. He's 18 months.
