My lo is doing really well on Prevacid. He has thickened feedings with Enfamil AR which comes already thickened. The idea is that it's harder to come up. He's 12 weeks adjusted and still definitely having reflux, but he does not have the oral aversion he used to have.

Also he eats smalls meals more frequently.

@TurtleDoves: who recommended the rice cereal to formula? Dr?
Also did that help along with medication? She is feeling pressured to do this but she hopes by doing that she won't have to give meds.

@regberadaisy:
Our LO was severe and we were in highest dose of Zantac allowable for his age/weight.
Ped said no Prilosec because it was compounded and it could be (not likely but it could) contaminated an he didn't want to risk that with a newborn.
We were on a non dairy diet from 2w old so no, it made no difference.
We basically had to resort to adding rice cereal to bottles (1t to every oz).
And we would few him an then keep him upright for about 25mins with a bib on.
3m he outgrew the severity of it and about 4.5m he outgrew it entirely. He only spits up now when someone feeds him too much (daddy) or when someone plays rough with him right after a feeding (ahem, daddy..)

@regberadaisy: and i believe majority of the time they start with zantac(that's what G was on) and if that doesn't seem to work after about 2 weeks(which is the time frame our ped gave us) they would switch to prilosec. also, zantac is dosed based on weight, so as the baby gets bigger, so does the dose.

When did reflux go away for your LO? he was weaned from his meds by 5 or 6 months, thats when they say it usually goes away by

Bfing or formula, did it make a difference? we didn't notice it until he was about 7 weeks, and he was full formula by then. we think we noticed it because he was put on an antibiotic for whopping cough, and it may have just made it worse.

Did cutting diary or soy make a difference? he was on a milk based formula and did fine with it once on his meds. but we did use a 'gentle' formula

Any other tips besides swing, elevating mattress, etc? keeping him upright for about 30 mins after feeding defintely helped.

My daughter's reflux wasn't helped by zantac. You could hear her burp and she would just start screaming from the pain. She is doing much better since being switched to Prilosec by a GI specialist. She is also on nutramigen for a milk protein allergy, but that's a separate issue. She slept at an incline (rock'n'play) for a long time but has been flat in her crib for a while now (she's 6.5 months). We tried the wedge under the crib mattress but she was just rolling down it!

LO's reflux went away around 6 months, which I feel is late. I think I read it usually goes away around 4 months, but I could be wrong. It happened to go away the same time she decided she didn't want to take her meds anymore.

LO was formula fed. We didn't use any special formula because while the thicker formulas are better for reflux, LO had constipation and we didn't want to make that worse.

We always had to make sure LO was upright for awhile after she ate, that helped a lot!

Wishing your friend good luck.... it's tough when your LO has reflux!

A friend of mine, her 7 week old has reflux. He's currently on Zantac and she said their ped is suggesting another drug, I'm assuming Prilosec?

When did reflux go away for your LO?
Bfing or formula, did it make a difference?
Did cutting diary or soy make a difference?
Any other tips besides swing, elevating mattress, etc?

Thanks!
