Mine goes in phases of when he wakes but if it's an early phase I give him books in his crib and get pulled together while he reads. I never set an alarm if I can help it! Normally he sits next to me and reads while I wake up and read email on my pone, then I read to him and we eat breakfast and get ready together. Which is why we are hard pressed to get out the door before 9:30. Yikes!

HECK NO! Mine sometimes wake before 6 AM!, and never ever later than 7...and it is extremely rare they would sleep that late.

Mine wakes up betwen 4:30 and 5 am, sometimes even earlier. I get up at 4, so I'm up and showered before she wakes up. My husband leaves for work at 5, so if I don't do it before she wakes up I don't have time to get me and LO ready before we have to leave for work/daycare at 7 since she can't really be left completely unattended. Tough because she also still wakes up a couple times a night, which I do too, since DH just doesn't have a job where being the least bit tired is even an option for safety reasons. It suuuuuuuuuuucks and I don't recommend it if you don't have to.

My LO is nearly 2, and has always gotten up for the day really early. It's been between 4:30-5:00 for almost a year. I sleep as late as I can!

D gets woken up at 6:40 am for school. My alarm is set for 6:10 so that I have time to drink a cup of coffee before I drive him in. Sometimes M is up before that, sometimes I have to wake him for him to ride along. If I have to wake him, it's at 6:30 to be changed and eat. But, I'm up no later than 6:10 no matter what.

@Mrs. Lion: gotcha. Both of us WOH and our LO is an early riser (6-6:30 am). I get up at 5:30-5:45 each day and Dh gets up at 6am each day. I try to shower and dress before she's awake, but DH gets her from her crib and changes her and gives her the morning milk. Then by 6:20 we are rushiing to get her dressed and get her hair done and daycare breakfast, lunch, snacks, and straw cups packed so she and I can leave by 6:40.

Over the summer when I was home, DH would still wake me when she woke up--he would go change her diaper and give her milk which gave me about 10 minutes to go to the bathroom and make coffee. Then she was back to me to entertain while he got ready for work.

My LO is not a super early riser, so I do tend to get up before her and it's really nice to be able to shower and have a cup of coffee before she gets up.

Maybe I shouldn't be admitting this, but sometimes when she gets up before me (or if I wake up with a migraine or something), she gets a little screen time. I leave her in her crib and play a show for her on the ipad, which I leave propped up on her dresser so she can see it from her crib. Then I either go back to sleep for 30 min or go shower and have a cup of coffee. It only happens about 1x a week, so I don't think it's a big deal. It makes such a big difference. It is like being able to hit the snooze button, lol.

No way! I like to stay up an hour or two after LOs go to bed and sleep in until the younger one wakes up which is usually by 6 or 630. I love mornings but not that much.

@Mrs. Lion: yup not looking forward to losing the morning nap! Independent play sounds good though, my DS is at that almost crawling stage where you can't take your eyes off him for a second or he's done the worm across the kitchen and has his face in the cats bowl!

I need my me-time in the morning, so I had been getting up at 6:30 and laying in bed checking my email/IG. This week, girlfriend has decided that 6:30 is the time she needs to get up and I haven't been able to drag myself out of bed earlier than that.

Nope. DS is a 5.30 - 6 sorta guy, and DH gets up with him most of the time (like you this started when I used to do all night wakings and has continued on despite the fact that night wakings are now quite rare). Usually on Sundays I get up with him to give DH a lie in, and sometimes DH has to be out of the house before 7 so we are all up then as well. I never ever get up before him and I don't think I ever would! I know what you mean about launching straight into the day - but DS is usually happy to play in the living room first thing while I sit by him mainlining coffee! I shower and get dressed when he goes down for a nap at 9am - not sure what I'll do when he's older and naps less!

I get up when my daughter gets up...I need all the sleep I can get. I tried getting up earlier, but I swear she must've known I was awake, because I'd only get a few minutes before she'd wake up.

Actually, what I do now is I let her stay in her crib when she gets up. I have the video monitor (and once it's up I turn the volume down and just keep an eye on her), so I know she's fine, but I get myself a cup of coffee, check my email and watch a little GMA. Basically I have 30 minutes to myself even though she's awake. Then I go and get her up. I started doing this because I seriously needed some me time in the morning. It works out pretty well!

My LO wakes up anywhere between 645-715 everyday. she goes to daycare so I need to have her lunch packed, dressed, hair up and ready to go by 8 (which is when I need to be out of the house). I have to wake up earlier than her to cook and pack her food for lunch and get ready because no matter what - she will ONLY let mommy take her out of the crib and change her diaper in the morning. When I have early morning conferences and need to leave before 7, my husband tells me it's basically WW3 at home because I'm not there. I can't wait until the mommy addiction becomes more equally distributed to the hubs!

@Mrs. Lion: Does your husband go to bed earlier than you? Is there a reason he has to wake at 5?

I'd try maybe trading off days with DH, he gets up early one day and you get up early the next. Then you have a little free time to yourself to start the day.

Our whole family wakes up at the same time - 6:15ish (we co-bed so there's no getting around it!) My husband and I tag team morning chores and do a lot the night before. Before our dog died he would keep our son occupied. Now F is 2 and better at playing on his own in the morning.

My little one generally wakes up at 6. I work part-time, but even when I work, I don't leave the house until 8:30. I stay in bed until he wakes up, partly because I want all the sleep I can get, and partly because ANY noise in the morning wakes him up (note to self: pay more attention to floor plans for the next house...) But LO is also able to play by himself for about 20 minutes while I sit and have coffee or get dressed. I usually shower at night, so my mornings don't take that much time.

Is there any other solution to having some time to start your day, other than getting up even earlier than the kiddos?

LO is up between 5:30 and 6 every day. So far DH has always gotten up with him to start the day, but I feel like I should help out some mornings since he is no longer waking up during the night.

I usually sleep until the last possible second, but this leaves me feeling rushed and overwhelmed all morning, especially since I SAH and don't have a morning commute to mentally prepare for my day...the day just kind of happens.

Should I just bite the bullet and start getting up at 5 (YIKES)? Anybody have another solution?
