@Mrs. Blue: Thanks for providing your personal insight! I'm pretty confident I have a singleton, but like you said, no telling till my first ultrasound, which the OB is waiting to schedule until she gets the results of my blood work tomorrow. As of right now, I don't really have any pregnancy symptoms.

My first line (at 11 or 12 DPO-can't remember now) was super, super faint, but I took like 10 in the following days because I was obsessed with making sure I was still pregnant. They definitely got progressively darker. While I had no clue about the twins until the ultrasound at 8 weeks, some things that could have been clues, though not guarantees, were that I started getting morning sickness really early and it became really severe and my tummy was growing faster than normal--in the first trimester I usually measured about two weeks ahead of where I was actually at. I also had super, duper crazy fatigue, but since I've never had a singleton, I can't really compare that.

I would definitely pay attention to how much your HCG level increases tomorrow and then just wait for your first ultrasound!

@Mrs Green Grass: I inputed betabase.org into my URL bar and it's requesting an email and password to login. Am I at the wrong site??

Just to update everyone, my HCG level was 735 (test was taken on Monday). It's been 33 day since my last mentrual cycle. They want me to go in tomorrow and get my blood taken again to see where it has progressed to.

When i had my twins the line was crazy dark and instant but as others have posted I don't think it's something to base the likelyhood of twins on. Wait until your ultra sound to be excited/terrified about twins. I know easier said than done because everyday until then I am sure you will think about it. Congrats on your positive, that's so exciting.

When you do get your beta, check out betabase.org. It shows all of the normal ranges (which are huge).

I was pregnant with multiples and the line was not crazy dark. I think every batch is a bit different.

Mine was definitely darker than it should've been at 11 DPO and several speculated on multiples but I used an Internet cheapie and it was not anything near like yours is...only time will tell, either way it's so exciting!
Def get your hcg numbers checked but don't worry if they do come back high, I know a friend whose dr thought it might be twins bc of her numbers but it turned out to be only one. I believe anything under 500 at 4 weeks is what is expected (and at 14 DPO, my hcg was 622).

@Mrs. Lovejoy: Thanks, and good to know!! I'll be sure to ask the girl drawing my blood if they're testing my HCG levels or not today!

@oliviaoblivia: @junebuglim: Thanks ladies, I'll probably have my 7 week appt in 2 weeks so guess I'll sit tight until I get my u/s then!

@shopaholic: That's how mine was! Like the moment the urine ran across the field where the test line was, it was pretty dark/vivid from the get go! The test line is actually darker than the control line. The hubby has never seen a pregnancy test and even commented on how dark the lines are.

@WALLAROO: @mrs. bird: Thank you ladies!!

I am a mom of twins and I don't remember the lines being particularly dark at all. I found out I was having twins at my first ob appointment at 7 weeks. Before that appointment however my mom thought it strange that I was gaining weight and getting uncomfy in my jeans so quickly!

My HGC draws came up high...4000 something at 17DPO and I only have one in there. The only way to know for sure if it's multiples is the ultrasound.

@Alivoo01: Congratulations!!!

I would make sure to ask your OB to do an hcg test if you want to know your numbers. I thought mine was doing one too, but they were actually testing the blood for 12 other things! I got a voicemail and thought I heard "your hcg was negative" and panicked thinking that I wasn't pregnant, but I misheard her and she really said "your hep b test was negative" or something like that. Oh, the things that go through your head once you get that BFP!!

@Alivoo01: I'm glad I didn't freak you out with the story. I guess to me it makes sense that the unfortunate loss of a twin probably did occur a lot more frequently than doctors knew about because I think its just recently that they do ultrasounds 8 weeks and earlier.

@blackbird: For some reason, I was a little relieved (and even sighed a relief sight) when I read your urine concentration comment. I have an extra test like that at home, and am debating if I should use it to see if it comes up as dark again.

@MerryC: Thanks!! I'm having my blood drawn today, and I'm assuming it's to measure my HCG level. I find out the results tomorrow. I'll have to Google the normal range of HCG levels now so I have something to compare it to tomorrow!!!

Best wishes!

I do know a friend of mine got a BFP really early and had a really early ultrasound. They found out that it was twins but lost one. They were told that twins are actually more common than thought, but many are lost very early on (before ultrasounds around 8 weeks). Not to scare you but just maybe a reasoning? They did still continue to carry that pregnancy full term and have a happy healthy baby boy.

First, congrats on the bfp!!!

It's really hard to speculate on multiples until you have an ultrasound. I got my first bfp at 10 dpo and the line was still pretty light on a frer. My beta hcg blood tests at 14 and 16 dpo were on the high side though....around 250 and 630 I think. I have twins.

From what I've read, the darkness of the line has as much to do with the amount of dye in the particular test (which can vary test to test, box to box, etc) as your hcg levels. My lines definitely got darker over the first few days though, so I think in general, more hcg = a darker line, but it's not an absolute. Baby could also have implanted on the early side, or you may have ovulated sooner than you thought. You can always say you are unsure of your dates and push for an early dating u/s. My twins were clearly visible at 7w!

i'm carrying one and my test line was ultra strong. I am not under the impression that darkness correlates to quantity of hormones, though. They're just a yes/no type of test. I believe it has more to do with how concentrated your urine is.

I posted my positive pregnancy test on the December Holiday Miracle POAS thread and the request for sticky baby dust thread, and a reoccuring comment was how dark my test line was since the test was taken 4 days prior to AF showing up. A couple people are wondering if it's due to potential twins/multiples. This has never crossed my mind! While I'm trying to keep a level head and calm my excitement/fears, I'm wondering what mom's of multiples have to say. How dark was your test line if you took a non-digital pregnancy test? How many DPO/pre-AF was it? Is a extremely dark test line a good thing after all???

Here's mine.
