@hilsy85: at the point where DD 1 got to the max on the rumble, I thought about putting her in the main seat and DD 2 in the bottom... It would've been much easier for me to push the stroller too that way (it gets pretty heavy with the older child at the bottom). But I just couldn't do it. I just wouldn't put a baby down there. It has a secure five-point harness and you can see the baby well if the main seat is facing out, but I just wouldn't feel comfortable til a baby was around 1 year old (at the minimum). so my baby was less than that at that point. If DD 1 got tired of the rumble, she just walked or scooted on a separate scooter beside it (but we couldn't go too far that way for long). On the B Ready though, I think I wouldve been more okay with a baby down there. I think because that seat can recline and it's not so "fixed".

One of the things I love about the Vista is that the rumble seat and the piggy back can be attached at the same time. So the older child has lot of options... they can walk, they can ride, or if they are tired and need a rest they can hop in a seat.

If I were to have more than one and were doing the stroller buying all over again, I would go with a Phil and Teds. I love the look of the Promenade!!!!

@MusicaV: Thanks! I just watched the video--very helpful :) I was considering the city select, but I don't know that I love it as a single stroller (prefer the vista or the bugaboo), and I don't want to buy a stroller only based on how it works as a double when our first LO isn't even here yet, if that makes sense...I also definitely want the bassinet, so I'd have to buy that separately. But she seems like a really helpful resource (the stroller guru).

@NYCaliMama: Okay so it sounds like it's going to be important to have some seat where the older LO can be. Is it realistic to put the older LO in the main seat of the UB and the younger one in the rumble seat (since I think the main seat has more space for taller/heavier kids)? Or would that not work (aka, do younger ones always ride in the main seat?). Thanks so much for your feedback!! :)

And I will fix the weight limit in my OP :)

See my post on the bugaboo vs UB thread! I talked about this a little bit :)

it depends on your family and your lifestyle of course, but I did live in NYC with two kids and can say that I definitely think 3-4 year olds who walk a LOT should still be in strollers. Top reason is safety... There's also what the pp mentioned in that if they weren't in one, it would take you FOREVER to get anywhere... and also, for me, I had an older toddler who still napped, and napped well during stroller walks/while i did errands... this was a vital thing to protect (to keep tantrums at bay and so I could do things while she napped). Also, like I said too, when winter hits, or even when it just rains, it's nice for them to have a seat and be covered and warm.

The rumble seat holds up to 35 lbs btw. My skinny 3 year old was fine in it, but hitting the max. If we hadn't moved out of NYC and sold the stroller, we would've been done with the rumble seat anyway at that point. She also wasn't liking that you can't turn it to face out. But for the time that she sat in it, it served its purpose very well. And I was very happy with the UB Vista in general. It's a great stroller if you had to choose just one. But being that you are in NYC, it's likely you will have at least an umbrella stroller too (if you take the trains a lot?).

Definitely don't get a double side-by-side since you're planning for siblings and not twins. There are a lot of single-to-double transition strollers out there. Besides the UB Vista, there's also the B Ready and Baby Jogger City Select. The latter though, didn't accomodate my tall toddler, but if you have two kids very close in age, it could work.

LO isn't here yet, but I wanted to let you know what we learned about the rumble seat: it holds up to 35 lbs. The older child has to face backwards/towards you. One mom said that her older child didn't like riding backwards.

Are you considering the Baby Jogger City Select? We watched this comparison video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcWQ91sPMeY
(We're still leaning towards the UppaBaby Vista)

@hilsy85: yes we absolutely love it!! To prep for #2 we are purchasing a rumble seat and a buggyboard for Wagon Jr. We already have the infant seat adapter from when he was a baby.

@hilsy85: I'm hoping the rumble seat will be sufficient, because we originally purchased the Vista hoping it will be our one and only stroller ever! Unless we have to travel by air... then we will probably either borrow or purchase a used side-by-side umbrella stroller.

We purchased a double stroller because Mavrick is 23months. We got a sit n stand option from Joovy. Well Mavrick prefers to walk so we haven't been getting much use out of it.

I don't have a baby carrier other than the moby so I might look into that (ergo or something else. )

@mrs. wagon: So do you mean that you think the rumble seat would be sufficient? Or you think we would need a true double stroller?

If you aren't a car family, I would say go with the double stroller action. If you are in the city you can probably find a used rumbleseat, or if you have to buy new, you can always sell it if you don't use it much, or when you're done with it!

ETA: Wagon Jr. is 2.5 years old and sometimes he'll sit in the stroller for a while, sometimes he wants out right away. If we're in a store or something he wants out, and it takes all kinds of tricks to get him to stay in the stroller (new toys, mommy's keys, etc). If we're strolling around and always moving at a pretty good rate, he'll stay in with no problems.

Our new baby is due soon and my LO is between 2.5 and 3. We're not planning on getting a two kid stroller because I will baby wear the little one this summer, and next summer I think the older one will be old enough to walk most of the time and the little one will go in the stroller.

I will say if you're walking a lot the older one will probably need a seat still at 2.5 to 3. Not just because they'll get tired (which they will) but also because sometimes you just need to contain them so you can actually get somewhere. Short walks with a toddler can go on forever because they stop and dawdle and look at every bug and rock on the way and sometimes when you just need to get somewhere it is easier to strap them in a seat and go.

We're trying to decide on a stroller, and one of the main factors causing us to lean toward our current first choice (the uppababy vista) is that you can add the rumble seat to use with an older child.

However, if all goes according to plan, we'll have baby #2 when baby #1 is between 2.5 and 3. At that age, will the older child be using the rumble seat (which apparently supports up to 35 lbs I think)? Would a buggy board be sufficient or do they need a place to sit down? We will be doing a lot of walking and not very much time in the car, and I plan for this stroller to be our main one (So I don't want to buy a true side by side double). Thanks! :)
