@mauxie: @Canoli: my situation is sort of similar, even if I wasn't making anything the health insurance is reason enough to continue working! And of course day care is a temporary expense.

@regberadaisy: yikes. I see your point! If the whole paycheck goes to day care, it doesn't really make sense to keep working, unless you really love the job or really need the benefits!

@winniebee: thanks! I may or may not be pregnant now and am freaking out at the thought that I might have to leave my job. I hope I find a good solution too!

I know this wasn't your specific question but I agree with what @winniebee said. I want to continue working, I have health benefits through my employer which are better than my husbands, and I have student loans that I feel responsible for paying for so those are also reasons why we are willing to continue with me taking a loss for about a year and a half.

@Mama Bird: I hope you find a good solution! I won't make much money after paying our nanny and both school tuitions. However, i am staying in my career and contributing to my 401k. And it's really only one year of hurt as my oldest will be in public K when the baby turns 1. That will free up around 1000 a month! Also the nanny does laundry and housework and it gives me the flexibility of being able to attend a doctors appt, etc without kids in tow. Our nanny doesn't know I'm pregnant yet (I'm sure she suspects) so I hope she is on board with helping with a new baby in the fall!

If I was to get pregnant now, we would have 3 in daycare. I would have a whopping $25 to take home after daycare. I will definitely be quitting my job if I got pregnant. Things are crazy enough right now with two kids, I can't imagine adding another to it AND not take home any money at the end of the day. That's just not something that can work for my family.

ETA: at that point it *'might* be cheaper to go with a nanny if I still wanted to or needed to work. More likely the latter for financial reasons.

I have 3 and am currently on maternity leave. I'll be going back to work when LO3 is about 4.5 months old. My kids attend a large daycare center affiliated with DH's work. We get the kids ready together, he does drop off, and we pick up together. Tuition is a lot, especially since my 3 are 3 and under, but I do make out with some $ at the end of it and our family's health/vision/dental insurance plan is better through my job than DH's. I'm considered full-time but my actual in-office hours have been reduced (from 40 to about 30) since my boss offered me telecommuting hours (basically checking email). For now, our plan is that I continue working and we will re-assess when DD starts TK/K.

I have three and work ten hours at home and a couple here and there at the office as needed. My littlest is three months all I'll be at home mostly until she's older. We have my oldest in part-time preschool and a nanny for a couple afternoons each week.
I'll be gradually increasing my hours as my girls need me less.
Daycare for three is more than my take home.

Following as I'm about to have #3 any day. I plan to go back to work full time outside of the home when my LO is 3 weeks old. They will all be in full time daycare. Daycare will be more money than my income but as a previous poster said it will be for a short period until my oldest starts kindergarten and I am lucky that financially we are able to make it work.

My biggest concern is how we will all get out of the house each morning on time and after work I expect to be a complete shit show for a while!

I'm pregnant with #3 and I plan to continue to work after baby is here. We have a 30 hour a week nanny. The boys will be in school next year - one 5 days in junior k and the other 3 days in a toddler program. The nanny will work some of her hours when the boys are in school and she'll do a lot of the house work. I work part time, some from home. My husband leaves for work at 6:30 and it not around to help get the kids up and out in the morning. It makes no financial sense to do it this way, but it's the only way I'll keep my sanity.

Following this as we are a maybe #3 family. I just ran the numbers the other day and I'd barely make more than daycare until DD1 is in Kindergarten in 2018.

A friend of mine just had her third and she made a great point that it's very temporary (just a year or two at most) that we'd be paying for all 3 in daycare, and once they are all in school it will be SO much cheaper, even after paying for some time of summer programs for them!

Moms of three, do you work outside the home? How does the child care arrangement work if you do, and do you still make anything after paying for the care?

Just wondering...
