Okay, I've just gotten back from the grocery store. I've picked up lots of items that I hope to incorporate this week, including carrots and celery and hummus. I've even picked up some fresh spinach so that I can make some green fruit smoothies!

Anyone have any recipes I should try or blogs I should check out? :)

@NaturallyCathy: sure!

First thing when she wakes up she asks for her yogurt. A kefir yogurt pouch (probugs - found at whole foods)
Breakfast: oatmeal + fruit or eggs, bacon, fruit, and sometimes waffle
Lunch: apple gate farms ham or turkey, leftover veggies (asparagus, carrots, peas and corn are her favorites), and fruit.
Dinner: meat + veggies + rice, we have pasta once a week but follow this idea for the rest of the week

For snacks she has : raisins, grapes, pouches, cheese, kale and banana smoothie, granola, cashews, and sometimes pretzels with hummus.

Also. She gets sweet treats like fro-yo or cookies or something on the weekend or if we are feeling generous. She's also been known to only eat French fries for lunch. But if say 80% of the time she eats great and almost everything we offer her. 20% it's pizza fries and noodles lol because those days happen to everyone

I think the key to keep offering different foods and cooking them differently. Ie LO is not a fan of just straight up grilled chicken breast. But chicken thighs simmered. In sauce? Loves them. Not a big steak but loves meatballs.

Meat is a little harder lately but I find the key for her is to mix it with her favorite. Carbs, meaning any kind of rice. So I will put rice, risotto, rice pilaf or quinoa in a bowl and cut up certain meats I know she will generally pick at, dice it small and mix it in a bowl with rice. Then I let her eat it with a spoon.
She also loves loves noodles and soups. So I take advantage of that fact. I try not to cook empty carb noodles too much. Ie veggie pasta, buckwheat noodles. Broth are almost always homemade from scratch for extra nutrition.

Disclosure: for the most part she's not a picky eater. I don't know if it's due to the huge variety of food she's exposed to or we're lucky.

Liam will eat certain foods he wouldn't normally eat if he can dip it in something: chicken dipped in BBQ sauce, raw broccoli dipped in ranch, carrots dipped in humus. Some of the sauces aren't that healthy, but I could make healthier versions. He also loves pasta with sauce, so I mix in a lot of veggies that way. Smoothies are also a great way to get veggies in!

E loves quesadillas (bonus because I can add spinach and chicken and/or black beans to them). Beans in general go over really well. Turkey meatballs that are loaded with spinach (with ketchup or mustard to dip in). Tonight he finished two sweet potato, quinoa, spinach and corn cakes...possibly because there was a garlic yogurt dipping sauce.

We also started doing what @luckypenny: and cutting out snacks. I'll have a container in my bag if we're out and about, but for the most part we stopped giving him snacks.

Getting C to at least take a couple bites of something new is a huge victory for us. We start out by offering him the same things we are eating for meals- that is all he gets while we are eating dinner. He usually picks at it and plays around with the food, after a while we offer a crutch: ketchup, bbq sauce, etc. Later on we offer the bulk of what he eats- cottage cheese, turkey, rotisserie chicken, Greek yogurt. If he's having a day where he just hasn't eaten well, we have fall backs of baked sweet potato fries, Nutrigrain bars, tortilla with butter, peanut butter sandwich, mac and cheese, etc.

He will. not. touch many veggies, eggs, pasta with tomato sauce, pizza. Homeboy is a lesson in frustration- he loves ketchup, but not tomato pasta sauce; loves fries, but will not touch potatoes that are mashed. When we go out to eat he often surprises us and tries a lot of different things. Toddlers :crying:

@luckypenny: Can you give me an idea of what an average day of meals looks like for you? Hubs and I have pretty much come to this conclusion to, just eat what we have left of the items and then phase them out completely.

I had to just stop offering those kind of snacks/foods entirely to get her to eat a "balanced" meal for awhile. She pretty quickly went back to eating mostly veggies and fruit and even added meat to her diet (which she has almost always refused). About every 2-3 days I'll offer her a snack of pretzels or crackers but it can't be an everyday thing or thats all she wants.

Well at least it's good to hear I'm not the only one dealing with this problem. He'll try some things - like raw carrots - and be really into them for the first few bites. Then it's like it suddenly clicks 'What a minute, this isn't a tasty cracker!!' and then he's no longer interested. Same with things like raisins, cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, and the likes. I've got to get more veg and protein in this kid. He hasn't grown much height or weight wise in a year and it's a little worrisome.

Wish I had advice for you, my son eats terrible too. He doesn't eat a single vegetable and the only fruit he eats is blueberries. I give him pouches so at least he gets some sort of fruits and veggies. He refuses to try anything new, so frustrating!

@keiki_mama: YES! smoothies are our go-to as well

J is so picky, he eats bananas, rice, ravioli, PB&J, yogurt but often will refuse all of it.
It's the most fun when I attempt to take him out and he doesn't touch anything at the restaurant. My company is usually horrified that he doesn't want anything. If it's family they blame it on us being vegetarians and denying him hotdogs, lol

Ugh, this sounds like my son too. The one thing I can count on him consume are smoothies. I pack with with spinach, bok choy, or whatever other leafy greens I have around, fruit, yogurt, and flax seed. He also likes dipping his food so we give him flat bread with homemade hummus and guac. Tell him it's flatbread and hummus he won't eat it but if I introduce it as chips and dip he'll pound it back.

What are you eating now a days? What's your LOs favorite food or snack?

We've been really struggling with getting DS to eat. He's suddenly taken pickiness to a whole new level. This kid would fill up on cereal, bread, crackers and the likes if we let him - which we don't - but a lot of times meals go uneaten. I'm looking for ideas on how to reintroduce a balanced diet in a new way for him and I admit to feeling a little helpless. I'm not exactly a healthy eating guru. Okay, more like a complete novice but I want to fix this problem before it gets worse.

Advice, encouragement, recipes, meal plans? Thanks bees!
